Sengoku Warlord EXPO 2026 in Tokyo's Ueno Park

Prepare to step back into Japan’s warrior past as Ueno’s Fountain Plaza transforms into a living samurai showcase! The SAMURAI Fest Executive Committee will present Sengoku Warlords EXPO 2026 for three days, January 16–18, at Ueno Onshi Park, just a short walk from JR Ueno Station and a few minutes from Tokyo Metro Ueno Station.

Expect high-energy stage spectacles, hands-on samurai experiences, and a lineup of regional eats and local sakes that bring history to the senses. From Sengoku-era clashes to Edo-period traditions, the expo offers immersive displays, interactive workshops, and taste-driven discoveries designed to engage history buffs and casual visitors alike. Don your curiosity, and perhaps try on a suit of armor for an unforgettable encounter with Japan’s samurai heritage.

Program and highlights

Live stage shows

Attendees can watch martial and theatrical displays including coordinated warlord troupe performances, choreographed sword-fighting (tate) demonstrations, and talk segments featuring descendants of historical commanders.

Interactive experiences 

Visitors will have opportunities to try on samurai armor, participate in basic iaido (sword-drawing) demonstrations, and take photos at specially designed scenic spots.

Market and artisans

A selection of vendors will sell samurai-themed merchandise, traditional crafts and other related goods.

Festival games and food stalls

Classic fair-style attractions such as target-shooting and prize draws will be available alongside a lineup of regional dishes and specialty foods. Food vendors feature items like monja croquettes, Miyazaki jidori chicken oden, and Uzushio karaage. 

Local drinks

The expo will showcase regional sakes connected to historical figures and areas, as well as craft beers. Sake booths will include offerings from producers listed as Koorogi, Sankakuya, and Suzu.

Featured participants

Performers and groups announced include the Sakurayuki troupe, Benizakura Kenbu-kai (a sword-dance ensemble), and the Joetsu Uesugi Warlord Unit. Exhibitors and experience providers comprise companies and groups such as Rasenism, VICTORINOX, the Soma Nomaoi Fan Guide, Sanada Ganmaruya, and Koei Tecmo Games.
