1-day Tour of Onomichi, A Quaint Town Located Along the Seto Inland Sea

We will meet at a hotel in Hiroshima City or at JR Hiroshima Station and take a taxi to Onomichi. We will take the Senkoji Park Ropeway up the mountain and enjoy a panoramic view of the Onomichi Channel and the islands of the Setouchi from the Senkoji PEAK Observatory. Next, we will stroll through the grounds of Tokyo Temple and enjoy the scenery typical of Onomichi , such as the old houses scattered throughout the hilly town and the five-story pagoda. In the afternoon, we will visit Jodo-ji Temple (a national treasure, including its hall and pagoda), which is also known as the setting for Yasujiro Ozu's "Tokyo Story". We will walk through the seaside townscape, the Teppan Pier, and the Seaside Art Museum with its murals, and finally relax at the U2 port complex.

9:00 AM Meet at your hotel in Hiroshima City or at JR Hiroshima Station → Take a taxi to Onomichi/Senkoji Park

10:00 Senkoji Park Mountain Base Station (Ropeway available)

10:15 Senkoji Peak Observation Deck/Park Area (View of Onomichi and the Seto Naikai)

10:30 Senkoji Temple (Stroll around the temple grounds, view the pagoda and other buildings)

12:10 Lunch (additional charge / nearby restaurants can be recommended) → Take a taxi to Jōdoji Temple

13:40 Jōdoji Temple (visit the National Treasure halls and pagodas) → Take a taxi to the seaside area

14:20 Seaside townscape / Teppan Pier / Seaside Art Museum (stroll) → Take a taxi to U2

15:00 Port complex U2 (stroll and rest) → Take a taxi to Hiroshima

Self-Introduction

My name is Miyu. I am a guide born and raised in Hiroshima. I am honored to share the preciousness of peace with all of you coming to Hiroshima. I worked for the Hiroshima Prefectural Government as a public servant for nearly 40 years and was involved in implementing supporting programs for A-bomb survivors for 12 years before retiring. During that time, I heard various stories directly from A-bomb survivors. I have also deepened my knowledge of the effects of radiation on human health and have been involved in activities to contribute to medical care for radiation-exposed people around the world. I feel privileged to guide you to the A-bomb Dome, Peace Park, and Peace Memorial Museum and share my experiences.

Let's also enjoy a trip to Miyajima, the Island of God. You will be refreshed by the scenic beauty of the deep green of the ancient forest, the blue of the Seto Inland Sea, and the vermilion of the Otorii gate.

As for Japanese culture, I sometimes demonstrate tea ceremony as an attraction at international conferences held in Hiroshima. I also have experience in calligraphy and the art of flower arrangement. My hobbies are skiing and playing the harp. Regarding spectator sports, I am a baseball fanatic and sometimes get into the baseball talk with my guests. I am serving as a medical interpreter occasionally.
