Final Fantasy Celebrates 40 Years at Tokyo National Museum

The Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Exhibition: The World of Endless Fantasy will take over the Hyokeikan at Tokyo National Museum from January 8 to April 4, 2027.

Celebrating four decades since the first Final Fantasy game was released in 1987, the exhibition will take visitors through the history of the legendary RPG series with memorable scenes, music, and interactive experiences.

The event will also feature a special collaboration between Final Fantasy and cultural properties from the Tokyo National Museum's collection.

Relive 40 Years of Final Fantasy

Fans can look back on the adventures, characters, music, and memorable moments that have shaped Final Fantasy over the past 40 years.

Beginning with the original game released in 1987, the exhibition will trace the series through its many titles and generations.

The displays will also introduce the latest entries, FINAL FANTASY XIV: EVERCOLD and FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, connecting the series' long history with its newest adventures.

Step Into the World of Final Fantasy

The exhibition will include interactive content that brings elements of Final Fantasy out of the games and into the real world.

Rather than simply viewing displays, visitors will be able to experience aspects of the fantasy worlds that players have explored over the series' four-decade history.

Final Fantasy Meets Japanese Art

Another major highlight will be the first collaboration between Final Fantasy and cultural properties in the Tokyo National Museum's collection.

Historic Japanese artworks will be paired with locations and characters from the games, creating unexpected connections between the worlds of Final Fantasy and traditional Japanese art.

One collaboration brings together Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e print of Nihonbashi from The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido with Kugane from FINAL FANTASY XIV.

The exhibition offers fans a rare opportunity to see the fantasy landscapes of the games alongside works from Japan's artistic history.

Visitors who purchase an exhibition ticket will receive a special venue-exclusive Square Enix Gallery promotional card.

Two card designs will be available during each distribution period, with ticket holders receiving one at random while supplies last.

From January 8 to February 5, the two designs will feature Mahamayuri (Peacock Wisdom King) × Joshua Rosfield from FINAL FANTASY XVI and The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido (Nihonbashi) × Kugane from FINAL FANTASY XIV.

Designs for the second and third periods will be announced at a later date.

Limited +9999 Final Fantasy Ticket and Pin Badge Set

Fans looking for an extra collectible can purchase the limited +9999 (Max Level) Ticket.

The special ticket comes with a framed pin badge collection featuring logos from Final Fantasy titles throughout the series.

Prices start from 11,099 yen for children, 12,399 yen for students, and 13,199 yen for adults.

The special ticket is available in limited quantities and will end once supplies run out.
