Wakayama

Wakayama prefecture is located in the Kansai region of Japan, and is best known for being the home of Mount Koya, where the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism has its headquarters. Mount Koya and its surrounding area make up a famous pilgrimage route of about 100 temples, and there are also three famous Shinto shrines here, known as Kumano Sanzan.

Wakayama has its own stunning beaches and natural areas, as well as the cutest train line in Japan - thanks to Tama, the sweet feline station master. Wakayama Castle is also a must-see spot located in the downtown of this peaceful prefecture.
