Kanazawa Castle Light Festival 2023

Kanazawa Castle will be lit up with a mesmerizing digital installation created by teamLab! The Kanazawa Castle Light Festival will be held from September 30 until November 26, 2023.

The installation uses projection mapping on the castle grounds, creating a space where history and new-age technology coexist alongside people and nature. Witness the beautiful vivid displays of flowers and animals and reflect off the ground's tranquil waters!

Event Highlights

Kanazawa Castle has faced multiple challenges from natural disasters to damage during the war. This autumn, the reconstructed historical building will be splashed in enchanting colors and lights that respond and interact gently with those who visit.

Watch as animals transform from mesmerizing flowers across the Gojukken Nagaya building. Once a historical warehouse used to fix weapons, Gojukken Nagaya will become a flower paradise!

A parade of multicolored animals stroll along the castle's stone walls creating a gigantic digital mural. The vibrant and colorful animals appear as if they have just walked out of a fairy tale.

Alongside the colorful flower works displayed by teamLab, there are several other plans to exhibit fantastic art projections and artwork across the grounds.

Art pieces showcasing calligraphy ink splattering across the castle's walls create a whole circle within one movement. This circle is known as enso, a sacred symbol meaning strength, elegance, enlightenment, and the wholeness that exists in every individual.

Visitors can also explore the ovoid maze - glowing egg-shaped installations sitting amongst the nature of the castle park grounds.

Watch as the lights change and glow in magnificent colors, responding to the presence and interactions of those who are in the area as well as the environment's conditions.

The castle is part of a large art project by teamLab called Digitized City. The goal of the project is to incorporate beautiful art and technology alongside the existence of buildings and places without physically changing the environment. The artwork displayed is only projected onto the buildings so as to highlight their natural beauty and structure.

Kanazawa Castle Light Festival is an immersive experience where you can interact with today's technology and art within the historical castle.
