However, spring in the Hokuriku region has a characteristic known as a "balmy breeze." This dry wind can suddenly bring summer-like heat, followed by sudden temperature drops. Therefore, even though the overall temperature in spring seems warm, the weather changes frequently.

Although Kanazawa enters the blooming flower season in March, the temperature remains low, averaging around 10°C. It can still snow sometimes, so it's recommended to layer clothing, starting with a long-sleeve t-shirt or light sweater, adding a medium-thickness sweater or knitwear, and finishing off with a warm coat and scarf. Those who are sensitive to the cold may want to wear gloves.

April gradually warms up with an average temperature of about 14°C, but there is still a significant temperature difference between day and night. It is advisable to wear long-sleeved tops or knitwear, along with a trench coat.

Autumn in Kanazawa: September to November

Once autumn arrives, it becomes an excellent season for travel. Early September may still feel like summer, but be on the lookout for the possibility of typhoons. We highly recommend checking the weather forecast.

The best time for viewing autumn leaves in Kanazawa is typically from mid-October to late November. By late November, the frequency of thunderstorms and hail increases, signaling the arrival of winter.

The average temperature in September is around 26°C. While it still feels somewhat summery during the day, a coolness begins to creep in during the mornings and evenings. For easy adjustment to the changing temperatures, it is recommended to wear short-sleeve tops paired with a knit cardigan or long-sleeve shirt and a silk or cotton-linen scarf.

Autumn weather is characterized by crisp air from October to November. The cooler temperatures in the mornings and evenings call for layered clothing. Wool long-sleeve garments, flannel shirts, light sweaters paired with a trench coat, scarf, and woolen hat are ideal.

Entering November, there is a noticeable transition from autumn to winter, with daytime temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C and dropping below 10°C at night, making it feel distinctly cold. Warm outerwear and thick sweaters are essential. We also suggest bringing a down vest.

There’s no need for heavy clothing in Hokkaido, and indoor heating is available, making layered (onion) dressing more suitable.

February is the time of the heaviest snowfall, second only to areas in Tohoku like Aomori and Akita. However, the snow typically accumulates only a few centimeters in the city and does not last throughout winter.

December officially marks the start of winter, with average temperatures dropping to around 7°C and the first snow beginning to fall. It’s advisable to wear thermal clothing, such as sweaters and down jackets, complemented by scarves or gloves. Waterproof footwear is recommended, and long boots can start to be used.

January is Kanazawa's coldest month, with nighttime temperatures potentially dropping below freezing. During this period of frequent snowfall, accumulation can reach several tens of centimeters, blanketing the city in white.
