[Kyoto] The unknown history of Ryoma Sakamoto left in Fushimi

It is a well-known story that in Fushimi, Kyoto, there were two incidents related to Teradaya at the end of the Edo period.

The first was the Teradaya Riot in 1862, when the Satsuma feudal clan's radical sanjo radical group Arima Shinshichi and others were suppressed by a pacifying envoy sent by Hisamitsu Shimazu, the father of the Satsuma domain. Another example is the attack on Teradaya in 1866, when Ryoma Sakamoto and others were attacked.

This time, I would like to introduce two little-known niche points about Ryoma's escape from the Teradaya attack incident.

1.Ryoma and his friends are surrounded by Teradaya...

Oryu, who was taking a bath, quickly noticed that Ryoma and his friends were surrounded by Terada-ya, jumped out of the bath, ran up the stairs, and ran to tell them. Somehow, everyone managed to fight back and escape.

This story is famous, but do you know what happened after he left Teradaya?

According to Shinzo Miyoshi's diary, which is said to have been written in January 2016, he ``cut through the back storeroom, broke the locked doors of two houses, apologized for the destruction, and ran into the alley.'' It says, "Escape." They cut through private houses and forcibly penetrated the streets behind them. It's doubtful that Ryoma and his friends would have been able to escape safely if they hadn't done this.

2.Existence of the Fushimi Tosa domain residence

In fact, at the time of his escape, there was a mansion belonging to the Tosa clan nearby. However, Ryoma was leaving the domain for the second time at the time and could not rely on the Tosa domain.

Furthermore, before the battle of Toba and Fushimi, Tosa domain lord Dou Yamauchi announced, ``Since this is a private war between Satsuma/Choshu and Aizu/Kuwana, we are prohibited from getting involved in the war until the battle is over.'' that's right. Therefore, the Tosa clan could not get involved in this battle.

In the end, Ryoma did not escape to the Tosa domain residence, but was ultimately protected at the Satsuma domain residence.
