Enjoy the sauna! Koukasya, a guest house surrounded by nature in the mountains of Yamaguchi

Koukasya is a historic guest house that opened in 1974 as the Yamaguchi Youth Hostel and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024. There are 6 single rooms and 2 Japanese-style rooms that can accommodate 4 to 5 people, making it a warm space where you can interact with the people you meet here. The nearly 80-year-old building has been renovated and has a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere. Equipped with a sauna, drink stand, and store, this is a facility where you can easily stop by for a cup of coffee.

The sauna is a ``wood-burning stove sauna,'' which heats the sauna by burning wood in an iron stove, and unlike those that use gas or electricity as a heat source, it is characterized by a ``soft feel to the skin.'' It is popular because it does not make you feel stuffy.

Although it is at your own risk, it is also popular to take a natural water bath in the river that flows right in front of you.
While listening to the sound of the river, look up at the starry sky at night and cool down slowly.

Swimsuits are required and can be rented. Day use is also possible. The night sauna is also open for guests only from 9pm. Please enjoy the temperature and atmosphere that is different from the daytime.

There are 6 single rooms and 2 Japanese-style rooms that can accommodate 4 to 5 people, and accommodation rates start from 7,000 yen per night.
It is fully equipped with Wi-Fi and can be used for day use, so it is recommended for work trips!

You can enjoy the seasonal scenery from the windows of the Japanese-style room, including cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall.

In the common space, you can prepare simple meals using a microwave or kettle. There aren't many restaurants nearby, so people tend to bring their own food. We also sell retort food.

``One of the charms of Koukasya is that the customers we meet here have fun talking with each other and get along well with each other,'' says a staff member. Locals often stop by, so you might have an unexpected encounter!

Breakfast is available for an additional 1,000 yen to the accommodation fee. Before the renovation, the bread made by Mr. Sugita's mother was popular, so the staff has recreated it and is now serving it. You can eat menus made with ingredients from Yamaguchi Prefecture and start your day off right!

The drink stand offers coffee, beer, apple juice, and more. ``Koukasya Blend Coffee'' is an original blend with a refreshing taste that makes you want to drink it even after getting out of the sauna.

It is also possible to use just the drink stand, so please feel free to stop by.

A store that carries products with the theme of "Coloring your daily life." We sell a selection of daily necessities and outdoor goods made by artists from Japan and around the world. You might be able to find your favorite products that fit into your daily life.
