Shuzenji Hydrangea

The garden of the five-star inn "SORA" in Shuzenji.
The hydrangea seedlings we planted there grew rapidly and blossomed into beautiful flowers.

It's growing so well that it's hard to imagine it was a seedling.

Shuzenji hydrangeas are "white," "blue," and "purple."

The natural color of hydrangea flowers is red.
However, when the soil is acidic, aluminum dissolves into the soil and reacts with the pigment anthocyanin, causing the leaves to turn blue.
The Japanese archipelago is made up of volcanic islands, and you can enjoy the noble and beautiful blue and purple hydrangeas that grow in the acidic soil.

So what about white flowers? Well, they don't contain anthocyanin to begin with.
It is also beautiful to see them blooming in their pure white form, untainted by anything.
