Modern Japanese Cuisine CRAFEAT ［新日本料理 CRAFEAT］

This is an experiential restaurant that serves dishes made with traditional crafts from Ishikawa Prefecture and where you can even purchase tableware.

CRAFEAT is a new type of Japanese restaurant produced by Taya Shikki-ten, a long-established Wajima lacquerware store. The name of the restaurant comes from "craft" (traditional craft) and "eat" (food). In order to let customers experience the quality of Ishikawa's traditional crafts by actually using them, all of the food and drinks are served using traditional Ishikawa crafts such as Wajima lacquerware, Kutani ware, Suzu ware, and gold leaf crafts. What's more, you can purchase any tableware you like on the spot. The restaurant has a wide variety of tableware, and its distinctive feature is that it serves creative Japanese cuisine that makes use of these items.

The first floor offers reasonably priced a la carte dishes such as "Kanazawa Oden Platter" and "Kaga Vegetable Kinjiso Potato Salad". The second floor requires a reservation and offers a course menu of about 10 dishes from appetizers to desserts. Many of the dishes use local ingredients such as Noto beef, Wajima blowfish, and Kaga vegetables, so we recommend enjoying them with local sake. The total cost of the course dishes, ranging from made-to-order traditional crafts that highlight the weight of history and the skills of the artisans to modern design plates by young artists, is said to be about 2 million yen. The Wajima lacquer bowls, decorated with delicate and beautiful lacquerware, are surprisingly light and thin, yet you don't feel the heat of the contents when you hold them in your hand. You can experience the charm and greatness of traditional crafts by actually using them.
