The Craft x Tech Project

Craft x Tech is an experimental project that bridges technology and traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Founded by Hideki Yoshimoto alongside Curatorial Director Maria Cristina Didero, the initiative explores the philosophies and skilled hands behind these material arts.

The debut edition, the Craft x Tech Tohoku Project (2024), featured collaborations between six creative teams and six traditional craft regions across Tohoku (northern Japan).

Blessed with natural resources such as premium ceramic clay and pure rivers, the region historically thrived as a critical crossroads along the Tokaido and Nakasendo routes. Today, this rich heritage continues to shape its vibrant craft and industrial identity.

The Craft x Tech Tokai Project brings together six traditional artisan producers from the Tokai region with six internationally acclaimed creators.

Together, they explore new creative possibilities, resulting in innovative art pieces that aim to redefine the future of traditional crafts.
