The route from OCAT to Namba Station on the JR, Osaka Metro, Kintetsu and Hanshin lines is surprisingly complicated

After boarding the express bus, I finally arrived at Namba. Just as I was excited to enjoy sightseeing in Osaka, I was faced with a big obstacle: how to get from the OCAT bus terminal to downtown Osaka or other cities. The OCAT building is surprisingly complicated.

This time, based on the latest information as of 2025, we will introduce how to use the elevator to get from OCAT to the exit, and how to get to Namba Station on the JR, Osaka Metro, Kintetsu, and Hanshin lines.

What is OCAT?

OCAT (Osaka City Air Terminal) is the largest bus terminal in western Japan and is directly connected to JR Namba Station. It also houses offices, restaurants, and shopping facilities.

The second floor bus terminal has limousine buses to Kansai International Airport and Itami Airport, as well as intercity express buses from Sendai in the north to Kumamoto in the south.

On the rooftop, there is a rooftop garden with approximately 10,000 plants of 200 species of perennial herbs such as lavender and rosemary, and trees, serving as a place of relaxation for citizens as an "urban oasis."

OCAT/Osaka City Air Terminal

Osaka City Air Terminal (OCAT) is a multi-purpose commercial complex located in Minatomachi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka. It is home to the South Osaka City Bus Terminal and the Kansai International Airport bus terminal, and is directly connected to JR Namba Station. The six-storey commercial floors also house shops, restaurants, travel agencies and a tourist information centre. OCAT is also a frequent venue for music performances, and the outdoor "Ponte Square" is a place where Osaka's young street dance community can practice and socialise. In addition, an urban dance contest is held here every August.

How to get from OCAT to the West Exit (Taxi/Sightseeing Bus)

Here are directions from the OCAT Bus Terminal on the 2nd floor to the West Exit on the 1st floor.

When you arrive at the bus terminal, take the elevator right in front of you.

Press the down arrow button to head to the first floor.

Once you reach the first floor, turn right and then turn left at the hallway leading to the entrance hall.

By the way, if you turn right here, you will reach the South Exit. Once you leave the building from the South Exit, it will be about a 10-minute walk to Namba Yasaka Shrine.

When you reach the entrance hall, turn left.

Continue straight and you will see the West Exit in front of you.

When you exit the building from the west exit, you will find the taxi stand and tourist bus stop.

How to get to the North Exit from OCAT

Here are directions from the OCAT Bus Terminal on the 2nd floor to the North Exit on the 1st floor.

When you arrive at the bus terminal, take the elevator right in front of you.

Press the down arrow button to go to the first floor.

Once you reach the first floor, turn right and then turn left down the hallway to reach the entrance hall.

By the way, if you turn right here, you will reach the South Exit. If you exit the building from the South Exit, you will reach Namba Yasaka Shrine in about 10 minutes on foot.

Go through the entrance hall and continue straight until you reach the end of the building.

Go straight to the back of the building.

There is a north exit at the end of the road.

When you exit the building from the north exit, Hotel Monterey Grasmere Osaka will be on your right.

How to get from OCAT to the East Exit (APA Hotel)

Here are directions from the OCAT Bus Terminal on the 2nd floor to the East Exit on the 1st floor.

When you arrive at the bus terminal, take the elevator right in front of you.

Press the down arrow button to head to the first floor.

Once you reach the first floor, turn right and then turn left down the hallway to reach the entrance hall.

By the way, if you turn right here, you will reach the South Exit. If you exit the building from the South Exit, you will reach Namba Yasaka Shrine in about 10 minutes on foot.

Turn right into the entrance hall.

Turn right at the entrance hall and you will soon see the east exit.

Once outside the building via the east exit, you will find the APA Hotel.

How to get from OCAT to Namba Station on the JR, Osaka Metro, Kintetsu and Hanshin lines

Here are directions from the OCAT bus terminal on the second floor to Namba Station, which is served by JR, Osaka Metro, Kintetsu and Hanshin lines and is located on the first basement floor.

When you arrive at the bus terminal, take the elevator right in front of you.

This elevator only goes up to the first floor, so to go to the basement level where the JR, Osaka Metro, Kintetsu and Hanshin lines are located, you have to transfer to another elevator in a different location on the first floor.

First, press the down arrow button to head to the first floor.

Once you reach the first floor, turn right and then turn left down the hallway to reach the entrance hall.

By the way, if you turn right here, you will reach the South Exit. If you exit the building from the South Exit, you will reach Namba Yasaka Shrine in about 10 minutes on foot.

Go through the entrance hall and continue straight until you reach the end of the building.

Continue straight ahead until you reach the back.

When you see the black hanging sign, turn left.

You will soon see an elevator on your right. Take it down to the basement floor.

After getting off the elevator, you will see JR Namba Station on your right.

If you board the train at JR Namba Station and transfer at Shin-Imamiya Station, you can travel to Osaka, Nara, and Wakayama.

To get to Universal Studios, take a train bound for Osaka at Shin-Imamiya Station, then change to a train bound for Sakurajima at Nishikujo Station and get off at Universal City Station.

To get to Namba Station on the Osaka Metro, Kintetsu, and Hanshin lines, go to the Maruito Namba Building entrance in front of the elevator. Enter the building from the entrance, and with the supermarket on your right, follow the corridor.

You will see a hanging sign directing you to Namba Station on the Osaka Metro, Kintetsu and Hanshin lines, so follow the arrows and you will see each Namba station.

There is also a Midosuji Line station just beyond the Osaka Metro Sennichimae Line station.

To get to Namba Station on the Nankai Line, first head to the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line and follow the signs there.
