Koshimizu Wild Flower Park

Yellow Hemerocallis sieboldii, orange Siberian lilies, and bright pink Rugosa roses adorn the hills between the Sea of Okhotsk and Lake Tofutsu. Many other native flowers bloom here, but the best time to see them is around the end of July, when these three flowers are in full bloom. Why not soothe yourself with the coastline and sea breeze and come to see the simple flowers? You can access Koshimizu Wild Flower Park by car or by getting off at Koshimizu Wild Flower Park Station on the JR Senmo Main Line.

Kitahama Station (JR Senmo Main Line)

Kitahama Station is the station closest to the Sea of Okhotsk. The wooden station building and old-fashioned red postbox create a rustic atmosphere from the outside. When you enter the station building, business cards have been posted there since some time ago, and now you can see countless business cards. The coffee shop "Teishaba" attached to the station building is modeled after the interior of an old train, and has a great atmosphere. From the station platform you can see the Sea of Okhotsk up close, and from the observation deck you can see the Shiretoko Peninsula. It's nice to be immersed in nostalgia at Kitahama Station.

Rent a bicycle to Cape Notoro

Currently, there is no public transportation to Cape Notoro, so you can only access it by car or bicycle. If you are visiting Abashiri by other means than car, why not try a speedy ride on a rental bicycle? In summer, Cape Notoro's black and white lighthouse is surrounded by yellow-green earth, blue sky, and azure sea. With a pleasant sea breeze, you can blend into nature. At the tourist information center of the roadside station "Ryuhyo Kaido Abashiri," you can rent out various types of bicycles, including city bicycles, crossroad bikes, and electric-assisted bicycles, and they also introduce recommended cycling courses.

Omagari Lakeside Park Sunflower Field

The Omagari Lakeside Park Sunflower Field is in full bloom twice a year, the first time around July 15th. The approximately 750,000 sunflowers are well worth seeing. Taking photos surrounded by sunflowers is sure to look great. By the way, the second time in late September is when the 2.6 million sunflowers, one of the largest in Japan, are in full bloom, making it a truly spectacular sight.

When you think of Hokkaido, many people think of the vastness of the land. This impressive path offers a typical Hokkaido landscape of wheat and potato fields. When the weather is nice, you can also see the Shiretoko mountain range. There is a parking lot at the viewpoint, so you can take your time looking out over the view. Why not stop by when you're out driving?

Abashiri Okhotsk Summer Festival

At the Abashiri Okhotsk Summer Festival, held in late July, Abashiri residents perform the Drift Ice Dance in downtown Abashiri, livening up the town. The fireworks display, with fireworks rising up close from the venue, is very impressive, and the background music is a big hit every year. Together with the Abashiri Roadside Station Evening Market Festival, this is one of Abashiri's biggest summer events.

Cherry tomato harvesting experience

Cherry tomato harvesting will begin at Omagari Lakeside Park from late July to late August. Detailed information on these sweet fruit tomatoes will be published on the Abashiri City Tourism Association's official website, "Oishii Machi Abashiri."
