Roadside Station Mejika no Sato Tosashimizu : The largest souvenir shop in Tosashimizu City

Mejika no Sato Tosashimizu Roadside Station reopened in April 2023 after undergoing extensive renovation.
A wide range of products are on display here, from bonito-related items, to products from neighboring cities and Kochi Prefecture, to firewood for BBQs, Tosa charcoal, and Tosa knives.

In particular, there was a huge selection of souvenirs related to bonito flakes; when I counted, there were about 80 different products lined up everywhere.

Make souvenirs and memories at the "Sea Gallery"

It was designed by Masako Hayashi, a pioneer among female architects, and opened in 1967. Tosashimizu City Shell Museum, commonly known as the "Sea Gallery"
The vast collection of 50,000 shells across 3,000 different species is impressive, but the building itself is also unique and attracts young people with aspirations to become architects from all over the country.

At Sea Gallery, they sell souvenirs such as Sea Gallery related books, postcards, and Sea Gallery paper crafts, and although the number is limited, they have a selection of items that can only be purchased here.

The most popular experience is candle making.

The Sea Gallery has shells and other items available to put inside, but if the weather is nice you can go beachcombing at Sakurahama Beach, a 5-minute walk from the Sea Gallery, and make your own original candle using the shells and sea glass you pick up there.

This is a liquor store that can be easily accessed from Tatsukushi's municipal parking lot.
Many people stop by when sightseeing in Tatsukushi, and there is a large municipal parking lot which is very convenient to use.

The store sells Kochi Prefecture's local sake, shochu, wine, liqueurs, shochu by the barrel, and snacks such as soft drinks and ice cream.

Umi Galleria Terrace: A nostalgic atmosphere

What was previously a small shop run by old ladies next to the parking lot was reborn as a new facility called Umi Gallery Terrace in April 2022.

Currently, two older women are selling precious coral accessories and folk crafts made from seashells.

The facility is a modern building that also houses a stylish cafe, but the shop run by two middle-aged women, which has a Showa atmosphere, retains a scene of the good old days of Tatsukushi.
It's fun just chatting with the older ladies. Please drop by.

Ashizuri Aquarium SATOUMI, which reopened in 2020
This popular aquarium features ingenious exhibits based on the theme of the natural cycle, starting from the primeval forest of Ashizuri and flowing through rivers to the sea.
