PEANUTS” is a popular comic that tells the story of the young boy Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy and their friends. This series expresses the thoughts of the late Mr. Charles Monroe Schulz, the creator, such as “what is love, friendship, and life?” through it's drawings and words. The PEANUTS are loved by people of all generations all over the world and they are also very popular in Japan.

The PEANUTS HOTEL, Japan’s first hotel that recreates the world of the “PEANUTS”, has been opened in Kitano, Kobe in the summer of 2018.  Kobe is an area where numerous international residents have lived since the port’s opening in 1868. It is rich in nature including the sea, mountains, and rivers.

Kitano is a town filled with an exotic atmosphere. Many parts of Kitano are similar to the American west coast of where Mr. Schulz grew up. It’s certainly possible to say that this city is the perfect location for this hotel.

In this article, we’ll introduce this already famous hotel. We will be starting with its rooms.

All Eighteen Rooms Have a Different Concept!

The hotel’s concept is “it’s nice to have a home where your guests feel comfortable.” They have created a perfect space where guests can relax and spend their time.

The hotel is even further characterized by the fact that three of the floors, from the fourth to the sixth floor, are based on the themes  IMAGINE, HAPPY, and LOVE. All eighteen rooms have been designed based on concepts that appear in the comics.

The hotel is proud of the fact that no two rooms have the same design. Let us introduce you to a few of their rooms.

ROOM51 – The Yellow Baseball-Themed Room

Baseball comes to mind when you think of the protagonist Charlie Brown’s favorite sport. Though Charlie, who is the manager and pitcher of his team, always loses in their games, he learns various important things through this team sport. The room is yellow with a black zigzag design inspired by Charlie Brown’s shirt.

The shower and washroom have designs that match the bedroom’s concept. The use of yellow, black, white, and gray tiles is really stylish, don't you think?

The amenities are Snoopy themed. The world of the “PEANUTS” is thoroughly conveyed through slippers, cups, and even ball pens. The Snoopy towel is a high quality and domestically made Imabari towel. Surprisingly, you can even take the towel home as a memory of your trip.

Dinner is also available in the three options of pizza, pasta, and main dish. Pictured is the MAIN COURSE (4,500 yen before tax). For the main dish, we chose Chef Woodstock’s Truffle Steak and Potato Ecrase.

All the dishes served at the diner use locally produced ingredients, including its vegetables and herbs. The fact that the ingredients are local and fresh makes the meal taste even better.

Dinnertime is from 17:00 – 23:00 (LO 21:30).

Stroll Through Kobe with a Drink from the Café!

日本初!スヌーピーの世界を再現した夢のホテル「PEANUTS HOTEL」が神戸・北野にオープン

On the first floor, you’ll find the PEANUTS Café Kobe where you can order drinks and hot dogs to take out. How about walking the streets of Kobe with a cold drink during the hot summer or a hot drink in the cold winter? If you want to take a short break instead, small table seats are also available one section of the café.

The drink pictured above is Lucy’s Homemade Lemonade (550 yen plus tax) offering a refreshing lemon flavor. It contains lemon juice as well as plenty of chopped lemon peel. Customers that are not staying at the hotel are also welcome to use the café and diner, so please feel free to visit if you are in the area.

In one corner of the café, you can enjoy shopping for “PEANUTS” goods and sweets. Please take your time looking for a memento or a souvenir of your trip.

Now, let’s head out to some recommended spots within walking distance from the hotel with a lemonade in your hand!

Walk Down Kitanozaka and Head to Kazamidori Hall!

The hotel is located in the north Kitano area. Take a walk on a hill road called Kitanozaka that connects the south and north Kitano areas. On both sides of this verdant tree-lined avenue, you’ll find stylish Kobe shops including cafés and general goods stores lining the road.

Walk further up Kitanozaka to the base of the mountain and you’ll arrive at a district of Western-style houses. Located in this district is the Kazamidori Hall, a famous Western-style house in Kobe. It used to be the residence of a non-Japanese citizen dealing in trades when Kobe opened its ports in 1868 and was constructed to resemble a Western-style home. A portion of the house is carefully maintained and has become a popular sightseeing spot.

Stroll to Ikuta Shrine - A Spiritual Spot

スヌーピーと仲間たちの夢を見ながら眠りにつこう!神戸・北野にPEANUTS HOTELがオープン

Only a bit of your lemonade is remaining. Walk for six, seven minutes in the southwest direction to return to the hotel. Here you’ll find a completely different image compared to the Western district. This is Ikuta Shrine where the guardian deity of Kobe resides. The deity is famous for being a matchmaking god. It is a spiritual spot visited by many young people wishing for a good relationship match. This shrine is extremely popular in Japan.
