Hakuba's Green Season - Glamping Amid Japan's Alpine Peaks
Hakuba might be famous as a ski resort but it's just as full of charm in the green season - summer and autumn. We introduce you to Hakuba's lush green forest and breathtaking views, which can be enjoyed through glamping and outdoor activities.
Hakuba - Japan's Famous Alpine Resort
Hakuba, located in Nagano, can be easily accessed from Tokyo. The mountainous area is well-known as a holiday resort destination. In fact, it is one of the most popular places in Japan to enjoy the snow and winter sports.
However, Hakuba is actually one of the best nature spots to visit outside the ski season as well. With its beautiful high mountains sparkling in the summer sun and lush green forests, it offers a great backdrop for hiking and camping.
Let us introduce you to the green season of Hakuba and to a luxurious glamping resort in the area.
What Is Hakuba's Green Season?

In Nagano, the time of the year when there is no snow outside is known as the "green season". The melting snow will reveal the beauty it has protected during the cold months and will make space for colorful flowers and greenery.
Because Hakuba is a mountainous region, there is always a cool breeze surrounding the area which is another great reason to go there when you want to escape the summer heat.
What is Glamping?

The word glamping is a combination of the words glamorous and camping. It offers all the fun of camping without the uncomfortable aspects like setting up your own tent and washing dishes in the river. Even more, it often elevates your experience by providing you with the feeling of staying at a luxurious hotel while being outside in nature.
Glamping has become very popular in Japan in recent years. Nowadays some of the most luxurious glamping resorts in the world can be found in Japan.

How to Enjoy Hakuba's Green Season while Glamping
Nature Walks

Hakuba is filled with an abundance of trees and flowers during the green season. In summer you can discover many flowers unique to Japan growing in the forest while the majestic green trees give you shelter from the sun. Some of these trees and flowers only grow in this mountainous environment.

The ground in some areas feels surprising spongy. This is due to all the tree roots running underground. Once you get used to this sensation it will feel like walking on clouds and you might be tempted to jump around on the forest ground. Just be careful not to slip and fall.

Hakuba is relatively quiet and secluded. You may encounter wildlife in the green areas. However, as mentioned before, dangerous animals like bears are also part of the forest.
Therefore, instead of trying to explore the forest by yourself, it is better to ask for a guided tour if you stay at the resort. The guide will not only make sure you don't encounter any dangerous animals but will also introduce the seasonal vegetation to you.

In autumn, Hakuba will be painted in all shades of red and yellow. The backdrop of snow covered mountains makes this fall foliage very unique to Hakuba.
The Starry Night Skies

High up in the mountains where the city lights don't reach, you can encounter breathtakingly clear, starry night skies. Naturally, you can enjoy this kind of night sky all year long but the milder weather in summer and autumn will allow you to sit outside and enjoy the stars to the fullest.
All you need is a chair, a blanket, and your favorite drink, which will all be provided by the glamping resort. Everyone should see a starry sky like this at least once in their life.
The Sun Rising Over the Mountains

If you spend the night in the mountains, how about getting up early to enjoy the sunrise? As the sun rises over the mountain tops making them sparkle like diamonds, the clouds will be covering the world below.
The clouds are so thick and fluffy that it almost looks like you could walk on them. A view like this is something that not many people can ever experience.
