The Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Nagoya will host the Ghibli Expo, a massive exhibition of Studio Ghibli statues, displays, and art, from July 7 through September 23, 2021!

In 2015, Nagoya was home to the first Ghibli Expo. This event has since been held in 11 locations across Japan, unveiling new pieces with each appearance. Now, with the conclusion of the Ghibli Expo, the entire collection will be gathered for display.

This year's exhibition will also include a unique display commemorating the beloved animation studio's 35-year history. Complete with original posters, merchandise, and unreleased illustrations, this collection is sure to delight fans.

Be sure to catch it before it's moved to the Ghibli Park, whose openng is planned for the fall of 2022!

1. Studio Ghibli's Flying Machines

The enormous model airship from Castle in the Sky was recreated as a dynamic display. It will give you the chills as it floats around the room with all its propellers in motion.

Airplanes from Porco Rosso and The Wind Rises will also be on display.

2. The Totoro Bar

The Totoro Bar is a space inspired by an actual meeting room within Studio Ghibli. A giant Totoro plush toy welcomes you to the enchanting world filled with stories created by this beloved animation studio.

The Sea of Corruption inhabited by King Omu and its trilobites was recreated into a mesmerizing display! This exhibit gathered a lot of attention when it was displayed in Fukuoka during the Ghibli Expo in 2019. For the Aichi exhibition of 2021, the exhibit was rebuilt and new exciting features were added.

5. Ghibli's Magic Lantern Tower

Ghibli's Magic Lantern Tower is an exhibit that was shown exclusively at the Toyama venue of the Ghibli Expo in 2018. This artwork fills the room with dreamlike, colorful shadows of characters and objects from the Studio Ghibli animated movies. The video below offers a glimpse of its magic!

This breathtaking display was created by Studio Ghibli in collaboration with Toyama Glass Studio and the Toyama Glass Art Research Center. Toyama City is well-known for its beautiful glass art crafts!

Tickets for the exhibition are available online from Boo-Woo Tickets (Japanese), as well as from Lawson and Ministop locations.

Please note that all the tickets for the Studio Ghibli Exhibition 2021 require prior reservation. You will be asked to select the date and time of your arrival. This is one of the measures taken in order to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 infections. You can find a full list of all the prevention measures on the official website of the exhibition (Japanese).

Running from July 17 until September 23, 2021, tickets for the event can be purchased up to a month in advance. Guests will also receive a commemorative gift!
