Nankoku City Tourism Association

You can rent and return costumes at the Nankoku City Tourism Association located in the Commerce, Industry and Tourism Division on the 3rd floor of Nankoku City Hall.

Let's head to the 29th temple, Tosa Kokubunji, from the Nankoku City Tourism Association.

As you walk along the pilgrimage path, you will find a manju shop standing in front of the "henro stone" that marks the pilgrimage path!

Henroi Manju

On the way to Tosa Kokubunji, there is Henroi Manju. Made using a traditional method, these manju buns are filled with red bean paste and are loved not only by pilgrims but also throughout Kochi Prefecture. The store will close as soon as the steamed buns are sold out.

Go a little off the pilgrimage route and take a break in a footbath that uses recycled energy from an incineration plant.

Mahoroba no Yu (footbath)

This footbath uses energy from a garbage incinerator (Konan Cleaning Association) to heat water.
There is no charge for use. Please bring your own towel.
*There may be suspensions due to inspections, etc.
*Scheduled to be closed from January 2024 due to construction.

Let's go to Kokubunji!

Kokubun River flows in front of Kokubunji Temple. In the days when there were no bridges like we have today, the only way to cross the Kokubun River was by boat. This "Jizo Watashi" still retains the vestiges of those days.

A splendid mountain gate! We arrived at Tosa Kokubunji.

Tosa Kokubunji

Tosa Kokubunji is the 29th temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage.
There is a beautifully maintained garden and a cafe where you can enjoy matcha tea.

Go through the Sanmon gate and walk down the cobblestone road to reach the main hall. First, pay your sutra here and then go to the Daishido Hall next door.

Please go to the pay office and fill out the form on the spot. You will be fascinated by the beautiful calligraphy.

Here at Kokubunji, you can enjoy matcha while looking out at the beautiful garden. Why not enjoy traditional matcha while admiring the seasonal scenery?
