7. Curry Rice
Usually if you hear curry outside of Japan, most people will think of Indian curry or Thai curry. Japan's curry rice is a dish altered from the foreign recipe made more to the liking of the Japanese, so it differs greatly in taste and appearance from Indian or Thai curry. Many tourists fall in love with the unique flavor of Japanese curry.
Japanese curry is made by pouring a sauce of stewed vegetables and meat over rice. There are some types of curry that are topped with croquettes or tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet). Sometimes there are different levels of spiciness, so if you don't like spicy foods you should ask the staff for "ama-kuchi curry" (curry rice that is not spicy).
