Tourism Toyota is an organization that making the most of Toyota City's manufacturing industry and diverse resources such as the natural environment, contributes to the development of local tourism industry, and disseminates tourism information through the official tourist information website. Starting with the nationally famous Korankei spot for autumn foliage, the Toyota Oiden Summer Fireworks Festival attracting many tourists, and the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art exhibiting Japanese leading contemporary art works, etc. Toyota City is known as the City of Automobiles, but it is actually a city full of charm. It has a variety of tourism resources and amazing sightseeing spots. Tourists are welcome to visit many times throughout the year. In order for Toyota City to continue to be chosen as a tourist destination in the future, we are working hard to show the charm of Toyota City, discover and enhance tourism resources, and contribute to the development of tourism in the region.

This is Angie from France, currently working at Toyota City Hall! This time again, I’d like to share with you two castles that are part of the Toyota Gojōin Project, along with some great spots to explore in their surroundings.

Today’s first castle is Odo Castle, in the Asahi Area. To access the path leading to Odo Castle, I passed through the lovely Zofuku-ji Temple, also known as the Furin Temple due to its numerous wind chimes. It takes a bit of time to reach the top at an altitude of 240 meters where the ruins are located, but while you climb, you can admire the scenery of the Asahi Area and look at the Jizo statues accompanying you all the way to the summit, which makes for a fun experience.

You can purchase Odo Castle’s gojōin at the Asahi Tourist Information Center. I particularly like this gojōin which has a wind chime drawn on it.

For today’s second castle, Kawaguchi Castle, you can start the climb from the entrance located behind Tenjinsha Shrine. You’ll have to catch your breath more than a few times to climb this steep slope, but from the top, you can see a wonderful view of the Yahagi River. This site, formed by flattening the mountaintop, is believed to have been the inner citadel.

Kawaguchi Castle’s gojōin is available at the Fujioka Tourism Association.

As for lunch, I recommend the Natural Garden Restaurant Juju, situated inside the Tsudoi-no-Oka facilities. This time, I had the sukiyaki lunch, which is part of the seasonal limited menu. At Tsudoi-no-Oka, you can also have barbecues from April to October, for gatherings of up to 50 people.

My final recommendation for today is the Aichi Greenery Center and the Shōwa Forest. The Greenery Center is a vast park where you can explore a Japanese Garden, an Australian Garden, and various other natural spots, providing your daily dose of greenery. The Japanese Garden shows off its beautiful colors in the fall, and its pond is a sight to behold.

If you’d like to go for a walk, please try the Forest Bathing Course at the Shōwa Forest. You can choose between the Family Course and the General Course based on your preference.
