What is Naruchuru Udon?

Naruto City was once a thriving salt-producing region.

It is said that people working in the salt fields preferred to eat udon noodles as a quick meal during breaks from work.

The uneven noodles are thin, soft, and short, making them easy for even young children to slurp down, hence the name "Naruchuru Udon" (Slurping Udon).

The broth is soy sauce-based, and the standard toppings are green onions and chopped fried tofu.

1. Funamoto Udon Takashima Main Store

The handmade noodles have a smooth texture, and the broth, which has been passed down since the restaurant's founding, has a light and refined taste.

The chopped fried tofu is sourced from a local tofu shop. Many repeat customers come specifically for the oden and homemade croquettes.

Long ago, when there were salt fields in the Naruto area, Naruto udon originated as a snack for workers. The characteristically thin, irregular hand-cut noodles are a vestige of the time when they were made at home. These noodles are also unique in that they blend well with the simple, clean broth made from kelp and bonito flakes. Be sure to try the taste of this truly Naruto udon. Side dishes include the popular chikuwa tempura, homemade croquettes, and oden. Enjoy according to your preference.

Tomisu is a Japanese restaurant conveniently located very close to JR Naruto Station.

In addition to Naruchuru Udon, sashimi and nigiri sushi made with sea bream and yellowtail caught in the Naruto Strait are also popular menu items.
