The gardens and flower fields at Sera Kogen Farm span across expansive areas within the Sera district of Hiroshima Prefecture. The Sera Kogen Farm venue spans 150,000 square meters and is home to weeping cherry trees and their enchanting blooms in spring.

This is also the venue of the Tulip Festival in April - early May, the Sunflower Festival in July - August, and the beautiful dahlia flower art displays in autumn.

As winter sets in, the enchanting Sera Kogen Candle Night event is held in this area, creating a serene and magical atmosphere.

2. Sky Flowerbed Sera Kogen Hana no Mori

Located on the Sera Plateau, the Sky Flowerbed Sera Kogen Hana no Mori is one of Japan's largest rose gardens, specializing in English roses. The cool climate of the plateau allows the English roses to blossom for an extended period.

During the flowering season stretching from late May to mid-July, June emerges as the peak for breathtaking views. The landscape is enhanced by various perennial flowers that harmonize with the roses, painting a vivid tapestry of colors not commonly found on flatlands. Within the 30,000-square-meter expanse of Sera Fujien lie approximately 1,200 Japanese wisteria trees and around 7,500 lupine plants.

Following extensive renovation work, the park now comprises 12 distinct areas, each offering unique perspectives to admire the beauty of Japanese wisteria.

Cherry blossoms can be enjoyed across 30,000 square meters at Sera Kogen, making it a beautiful addition to a spring trip itinerary! Weeping cherry blossoms coexist with yellow rape blossoms on paths lined with hyacinths and snow willows, filling the farm with pops of color and seasonal beauty.

As the sun sets, the dangling cherry blossom petals are illuminated, forming enchanting pink and purple archways that can be enjoyed through the evening. In the park, guests can purchase delicious cherry blossom-themed sodas, desserts, and more from the farm's restaurants and food trucks. Located in Sera Kogen's Flower Village, a sea of blue nemophila flowers meets the airy blue skies while rolling pink and purple patchwork blankets of moss phlox spread an incredible display of flowers across Hiroshima's quaint countryside.

Boasting an impressive one million nemophila flowers and 450,000 moss phlox across 40,000 square meters, visitors are sure to be swept off their feet by the expansive waves of colorful flowers at the farm, one of Western Japan's largest.

Visitors can frolic amidst spring colors while enjoying fun and creative photo spots! From the Ghibli-like magical Happy Bus Stop encircled by baby blue eyes to a beautiful flower dress set amidst flowers in the princess garden, the park and its attractions teleport guests into a tranquil paradise!

3. Tulip Festival (April to May)

In spring, Sera Kogen Farm welcomes its visitors with a rainbow of 750,000 flourishing tulips! Splashing colorful and swirling patterns across the grounds, the 200 species of tulips have been carefully planted to create an array of stunning flower artwork that can be enjoyed along a 65,000-meter path.

During this season, the Tulip Festival takes place, offering seasonal snacks, activities, and the opportunity to pick your favorite tulips and create a beautiful bouquet! Visitors can also hand-pick tulips in a designated area and take the bulbs home to grow their own flowers the following year.

4. Wisteria Flowers and Dainty Lupines (April to May)

A purple flower paradise, the annual Wisteria Festival is certain to make the hearts of flower enthusiasts soar! 1,000 brilliant wisteria trees burst into bloom, creating a labyrinth of draping lilac-colored petals and a floral aroma.

Set on a small valley hill, the wisteria towers over a miniature forest of pink and purple lupines! These beautiful flowers, known as "rising wisteria" in Japan, have been carefully planted in the Nobori Fuji Valley, creating breathtaking and rare scenery by combining 12,000 lupines and hanging wisteria gardens. Whichever way you look, the sight is truly spectacular.

A highlight of the festival is the Fuji Rock Garden, reminiscent of a traditional Japanese Zen garden. This area features a carpet of white pearly rocks surrounding gigantic wisteria trees. In the daytime, sunlight filters through the branches, casting shadows and light onto the ground. As the sun sets, the trees are beautifully illuminated, making the garden enjoyable both day and night.

5. Elegant Rose Gardens (May to June)

A Floating Rose Garden among the clouds, the English Rose Forest stands out as the first of its kind in the region, blooming each late spring with 150 varieties of stunning roses! Perched 540 meters above sea level, this area towers over Sera Town, embellishing the landscape with 7,200 roses and their beautiful fragrances.

During the Rose Festival, guests can immerse themselves in mesmerizing and expansive scenic views of colorful flowers stretching into the distance against the backdrop of the blue, airy summer-like skies. They can explore the grounds and capture delightful moments at various photo spots.

Moreover, hand-picked roses find their place in the Sky Fountain, gently dancing on the reflective water surface. Inspired visitors can unleash their creativity by crafting interior decor using dried flowers at the Botanical Moist Potpourri Experience.

6. Hydrangeas and Hollyhock Flowers (June)

During this enchanting period, visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the hydrangeas at captivating spots like the hidden Annabelle garden, which showcases 1,500 iconic white Annabelle hydrangeas. The giant bridal shower hydrangeas create picture-perfect pathways for memorable photos, while hydrangea water art and a valley adorned with brilliant hollyhocks offer additional delights.

Encompassing 25,000 square meters of the park, these blooms invite you to take a leisurely stroll, perhaps enjoying a delicious hydrangea ice cream or soda as you soak in the surroundings.

7. Sunflower Fields (July to August)

Welcoming the arrival of summer, thousands of sunflowers awaken from their slumber, painting a picturesque scene with their yellow petals swaying against a backdrop of the blue sky. Encompassing 65,000 square meters of land, sunflowers like the Sunfinity, which produce 100 blooms from a single plant, form an endless sea of golden petals! Within the fields, you'll find photo spots and relaxation areas designed for unwinding and savoring the beauty of summer.

At the Sunflower Festival, Sera Kogen Farm offers mouthwatering treats such as corn and corn-flavored ice cream, alongside the opportunity to purchase sunflower bouquets. Guests can enjoy discovering rare sunflower species, strolling through white sunflower fields, and capturing special moments at the Summer Memories Photo Booth.

8. Heavenly Blue Flower Hills and Golden Marigolds (August to September)

From a sea of yellow sunflowers in early August to brilliant heavenly blue flowers and orange marigold fields later in the month, the vast park continues to spread cheerful and refreshing colors until the end of summer.

At Heavenly Blue Hill, visitors are treated to the sight of heavenly blue flowers blanketing the Sera highlands. Approximately 140,000 of these blooms adorn the landscape alongside 12,000 golden marigolds and 2,000 summer cypresses.

Visitors can enjoy brilliant photo opportunities at the Summer Princess Garden, where quaint summer cypress pathways surround an ocean of marigolds meeting rolling hills of heavenly blue!

Additional seasonal attractions during this period include delightful and refreshing cuisine like shaved ice and soft ice cream, opportunities for marigold flower picking, the Morning Glory Fair, and a children's fair featuring traditional Japanese summer games such as super ball scooping and the Shooting Gallery.

9. Dahlia and Garden Mum Festival (September to November)

Additional seasonal delights to savor include the stunning cosmos flower fields and the park's charming flower-shaped sweets known as Farm Yaki.

10. Autumn Rose and Flower Garden (September to October)

Perched at an elevation of 540 meters, the exquisite English rose garden brings seasonal delights as autumn arrives, offering breathtaking expansive scenery. This garden blooms with 7,200 roses of 150 varieties alongside thousands of other perennial plants across 10,000 square meters!

From September to October, visitors can delight in swaying cosmos flowers surrounding the English roses in the sky crown area—an ideal spot to unwind, soak in floral vistas, and savor the pleasant aromas from the autumn roses that bloom by mid-October. Amidst rose-covered hills, the autumn plains burst into life with an assortment of fall flowers and plants, including pampas grass.

During this season, guests can treat themselves to delightful cuisine like a crepe adorned with seasonal fruits and a pizza crafted with seasonal ingredients. Additionally, visitors can engage in creating Potpourri decorations using locally grown roses and rosemary.

11. Fiery Red Kochia and Cosmos Flowers (September to October)

A new addition to the park, fields of red kochia can be appreciated during both summer and autumn! Transforming from a vibrant green to a deep autumnal red hue as fall sets in, witness the landscape shift its ambiance from yellow sunflowers to expanses of red, with cosmos flowers blooming in abundance.

12. Candle Lit Walk Ways and Illuminations (November to December)

While winter is typically not associated with blooming flowers due to the cold, Japan's snowy mountainscapes, and the scarcity of blossoms, Sera Kogen maximizes the beauty of its expansive grounds each year by hosting a magical illumination event.

During the Sera Kogen Candle Night, trees are aglow with colorful lights, and forest pathways are lined with enchanting candles, offering visitors the opportunity to appreciate the beauty and serenity of winter amidst nature's charm and under starry skies.

Glistening at 500 meters in the sky, the park's plateau provides a wonderful setting to experience the natural allure of Sera Highlands while basking in the gentle glow of candlelight. This area is a fantastic spot for capturing enchanting photographs, featuring lantern-lit pathways, reflective mirrors, candle displays, meandering rivers of light, shimmering shows, and more.

Access and Tips for Enjoying Sera Kogen

By car or taxi, Sera Kogen Farm can be reached in about one hour and 20 minutes from Hiroshima City, about 40 minutes from Onomichi, or about 40 minutes from Hiroshima Airport.

The nearest train station is JR Shin Onomichi Station. From here, you can take the Chugoku bus, which takes you in about one hour to Kousan Bus Stop, the nearest to Sera Kogen Farm. (Bus fee: one way 1,070 yen)

Sera Kogen Farm can also be reached directly from the Hiroshima Bus Center by taking the Chugoku bus Peace Liner, which takes you in about one and a half hours to the Kousan Bus Stop. (Bus fee: one way 2,300 yen, roundtrip 4,100 yen)

There are several dining facilities and cafes within Sera Kogen Farm so visitors can easily spend a day exploring the flower fields. Notably, the facility promotes the culinary and agricultural industries of the Sera district through the Sera Burger Project.

For accommodation, we recommend staying in one of the nearby cities: Mihara, Onomichi, or Fukuyama, which are also worth visiting.
