Kozushima is one of the Izu Islands, an isolated island off the coast of Tokyo. It takes just 45 minutes by plane from Tokyo to get there, and it's hard to believe it's in the same Tokyo area. The island is rich in nature and has a unique historical culture, and there are plenty of attractive spots to visit. Jump into the sea! A popular spot for snorkeling and diving! Akasaki Promenade

The promenade with a diving board is crowded with children in the summer. (*The shop is only open during the summer vacation period, and there are no vending machines.) It is also a popular snorkeling and diving spot. From the observation deck you can see Shikinejima, Niijima, and more. As there are no lights, it is also a great spot to enjoy stargazing. There are public toilets and outdoor showers where you can change clothes.

The Akasaki Promenade is a spot that you cannot miss when sightseeing on Kozushima!
There is a wooden walkway over the rocky inlet, and you can cross the bridge and walk up to the top of the rocks.

What's more, you can jump into the emerald green ocean from the diving board on this bridge!
Return to your childhood and take a bold leap!

If you look into the ocean, you'll see lots of fish right at your feet!

From the observation deck you can see Shikinejima, Niijima, and Oshima, and on clear winter days you can even see Mount Fuji and the Izu Peninsula.

This is the spot with the fewest lights on Kozushima, so it's also recommended for stargazing at night.
It is far from the village, so please be careful when visiting at night.

572 meters above sea level. The highest point on Mt. Tenjo. This stunning view has earned it a spot on several prestigious lists. The 360° view of the ocean is also a rare experience!

Mount Tenjo, towering over Kozushima, has an altitude of approximately 572 meters.
It is so rich in vegetation that it has been selected as one of the 100 famous flower mountains, and you can enjoy a variety of beautiful scenery from the hiking trails. Climbing while looking out over the sea is unique to the island mountains! On the other hand, you will never get bored, as you will suddenly see a white desert!

For those who want to learn about the plants, scenery, and island while climbing, we recommend going on a tour with a guide.
The recommended seasons are spring and autumn. If you are climbing in the hot season, it is important to bring plenty of drinks, long sleeves, long pants, and sneakers. Please be careful of injuries and accidents and enjoy the climb!

Cold and refreshing even in summer! The spring water of Tako Bay

This abundant spring water has been selected as one of the 57 best springs in Tokyo. It is very cold and smooth, even in summer. Coffee and shochu (distilled spirits) taste exceptional when made with this water!

One of the abundant blessings of Kozushima is this spring water.
The village's water supply comes from spring water and groundwater, so you can get delicious water just by turning on the tap.
There's no need to buy bottled water! Wouldn't it be more economical and environmentally friendly to bring a water bottle and fill it with water as you go?

The Tako Spring in Tako Bay has cold water gushing out even in summer.
This is an important spot in island life, as it is where people wash Tengusa agar.
It's nice to take a break while gazing at the gradations of blue created by Mt. Tenjo and the sea.

You can use this water to cook rice, brew coffee, and even mix shochu with water to make something delicious!

An observatory with a cross erected in memory of Julia Ota. It commands a panoramic view of Maehama Beach and the village and is an ideal spot for watching the sunset and the stars.

We recommend visiting at dusk. The sight of the sun sinking into the ocean and illuminating Maehama Beach and the village in orange is so beautiful you could watch it for hours.

There is no bus route to this location, but it is about a 45 minute walk, or about 15 minutes by electric bicycle.
It's also a recommended spot for stargazing, but there are few streetlights and the road is sloped, so please be careful when heading out after dark.

Recommended for swimming and watching the sunset! Maehama Beach

Maehama Beach

A white sand beach that stretches for about 800 meters. The sight of the sun setting on the horizon is romantic.

Maehama Beach , the main beach of Kozushima , has a beautiful contrast between the blue sea, blue sky, and white sand. Of course, you can swim in the sea in the summer, but even when you can't go in the sea, you can take a leisurely walk, collect sea glass, or just sit on the sand and drink a beer while watching the sun sink into the horizon, and you'll feel great.

If you want to enjoy snorkeling, we recommend heading to the left side of the island facing the sea, where there is a rocky area known as "Tsumari."
You also have a chance to encounter sea turtles at Maehama Pier.

Hot springs are an essential tourist spot on Kozushima throughout the year.
There are three open-air baths, one of which is open even in winter. Bathing suits are required, so don't forget to bring your swimsuit even when you're not swimming in the sea!

Recommended for stargazing! Yotane Square

The last place we would like to introduce is Yotane Square, which is also a great spot for stargazing.
It is located on a hill in the village, so it can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot from most accommodations.
