This famous building, which was partly open to the public as a museum, was renovated under the supervision of designer Tadao Ando in December 2015 to become a small luxury hotel with seven all-suite rooms. The hotel's concept is "Minimal Luxury."

Ryotei Hanzuiryo opened in 1992 in Unzen, Nagasaki Prefecture, which has long been known as a "summer resort above the clouds." Surrounded by magnificent nature, the 16,000 m2 site is dotted with 14 detached guest rooms (each room over 250 m2) in just eight buildings, surrounded by a Japanese garden that reflects the changing of the seasons, as well as a large communal bath and an open-air bath. The detached buildings were built by Kyoto carpenters over a period of three years using traditional sukiya-style techniques.
