What is Fugu?

Fugu is a general term for fish in the Tetraodontiformes order and Tetraodontiidae family. They are characterized by their round, fat body, lack of pelvic fins, and a pointed, beak-like mouth. Their white meat is light and flavorful, and they are popular in fugu hotpots and as fugu sashimi.

It has no particular flavor and is easy to eat, with a light and simple taste and a chewy, elastic texture.

Fugu sashimi is cut very thinly because the flesh of fugu is very fibrous and difficult to chew using normal cutting methods.
