Hokkaido Dairy Farming and Cycling

"Memuro Sanso" offers tours that not only include cycling, but also allow you to enjoy experiences unique to Memuro Town.

This time we will introduce the "Moo Moo Ranch". It is a mini dairy farming experience where you can get a glimpse of the work of dairy farmers, and if you are lucky you may even get to feed milk to calves.

Let's start from JR Memuro Station, the gateway to Memuro Town, and go around the course together!

Start your cycling trip from JR Memuro Station!

We will meet at JR Memurocho Station, and the guide will give you a detailed lecture on how to ride the E-bike and the course. Since it is an electric bicycle, it is easy and safe even on slopes. It is also recommended for beginners.

One of the attractions of the Memuro Sanso is the company of guides who are passionate about the local area. Enjoy the spectacular views that only locals know about and the interesting conversations.
We head towards the ranch, stopping at several photo spots while taking in the magnificent scenery, including the Hidaka Mountains, which are also designated as a national park.

Mini dairy farming experience at a farm in Memuro Town

edit_note
The ranch we will be visiting today is Otomo Ranch in Memuro town.
A dairy farmer who is certified as a dairy education farm will guide you around the cowshed.
We learned that each farm has its own unique style and differences in the feed mixture, and we were given a lesson in the daily work routine.
If the calves are around, you may have the chance to feed them milk.
*Overalls and boots will be available to rent free of charge when visiting the cowshed.

Take a commemorative photo with the impressive tractor!

edit_note
The tractors used for dairy farming have huge tires and are very impressive!
Why not take a commemorative photo in front of a tire that is taller than you?
The work of dairy farmers actually goes beyond just caring for the cows; it also involves managing pasture and harvesting straw rolls after the wheat is cut, so tractors are often used.
You won't be able to drive it, but you may have the chance to test drive it and take some photos.

At the end of the tour, you will also get the chance to sample some of the farm's homemade cheese.
The experience may be short, but the cheese you eat after experiencing dairy farming may taste different than usual.

After completing the experience, you will cycle back to JR Memuro Station.
One of the fun things about the trip is taking a different route than the one you took on the way there and seeing different scenery.
