Characteristics of Echizen Coast

Echizen Coast, designated as a quasi-national park, stretches from Tojinbo in the north to Sugitsu in Tsuruga in the south, jutting out into the Sea of Japan in a gentle U-shape with Echizen Cape in the middle at its western end, and the Kuzuryu River flows into its northern end. Unlike Wakasa Bay, which has a ria coast, Echizen Coast is characterized by its manly, rugged cliffs of unusual rocks created by its raised coast. The beauty of the coastline, centered around Echizen Cape, with cliffs of unusual rocks such as the large natural tunnel "Kodorimon" created by the erosion of wind and waves, captivates visitors.
Its unique scenery makes it a popular driving spot, and on fine days it is bustling with cars and motorbikes.
Fresh seafood can be enjoyed throughout the year, and Echizen crabs are especially popular in the winter season. The area is also home to one of Japan's three largest daffodil growing areas, and the pretty Echizen daffodils that bloom on the mountain slopes attract tourists.
Additionally, Echizen Cape and Tojinbo have been selected as among the "100 Best Sunsets in Japan."

It is a symbolic sight of this land that has lived alongside the majestic Sea of Japan.
