Red lanterns sway in the night breeze, and conch shells reverberate through the streets of Edo. This is a participatory summer festival experience.

"Uzumasa Festival Spirit" is a special event held at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, which combines the world of period dramas with a Japanese summer festival.

At the evening event, we visited beautifully lit up spots, took part in a lively parade, and even encountered Nessie peeking out from the waterway.

What is the Uzumasa Festival Spirit?

This summer-only event at Toei Kyoto Studio Park allows you to fully experience the atmosphere of an Edo period town and summer festival. There are plenty of fun things to enjoy only at night at the movie park, such as the illuminated streets decorated with lanterns and Japanese umbrellas, a participatory parade accompanied by the sounds of drums and conch shells, street performances, and a live performance by Ranryo Teikobai and a DJ.

Just walking around makes you feel like you've entered the world of a period drama.

In addition to the above, we also offer a variety of other cultural experiences, such as a transformation experience and a sword fighting experience where you can learn sword techniques. Uzumasa Festival Tamashii Venue and How to Get There

The venue for "Uzumasa Festival Spirit" is Toei Kyoto Studio Park and its surrounding area in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. There are several nearby stations and multiple ways to get there.

The journey from Kyoto Station takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and the fare is around 250 to 300 yen. The studio park also has parking for cars and bicycles, so you can also come by car.

Illuminated Japanese umbrellas and a night walk around the city

From dusk to night, the Edo cityscape illuminated by colorful umbrellas and lanterns is exceptional. The golden evening scenery changes into a night view, providing plenty of photo opportunities. Take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the townscape in all its detail.

Tip: Visit before dusk to enjoy the atmosphere of both day and night.

Street performances and live stages

At night, a variety of performances unfold on the streets, including audience participation in Nanjing Tamasudare, powerful shamisen performances, and a live performance by Ranryo Tingzi Mei and a DJ.

It was heartwarming to see the children joining in the dancing, and the entire venue was filled with a sense of unity.

Uzumasa Parade

The highlight of the evening is the Uzumasa Parade, where performers wearing Hyottoko masks and traditional costumes parade through the streets of Edo to the sound of drums and conch shells.

Viewing was free, and the first 40 people to arrive were able to wear the original happi coats and join the parade. They walked together, enjoyed the performances along the way, and then all danced together for the finale. It was a special experience, like stepping into a scene from a movie.

Must-see permanent spots at the movie park and Nessie

After the parade, there was also a permanent spot that is unique to the movie park. When I looked into the waterway, I saw Nessie popping out and spraying me with cool mist! I couldn't help but laugh as I felt like our eyes met.

A ninja house that loads, a haunted house that becomes even more atmospheric at night, and exhibits of Sentai heroes and Showa heroes.

"If I had more time, I would have liked to have visited all the buildings and filming locations!" Even just walking around the movie village at night is exciting.

The food stalls offer a wide range of food, from traditional summer festival cuisine to international-style dishes.
