Located about 90 minutes from Tokyo and surrounded by the lush nature of Hakone Sengokuhara, Hakone Retreat före & villa 1/f is a forest resort hotel consisting of the modern and sophisticatedly designed hotel före (37 rooms in total) and the private, stand-alone cottages villa 1/f (18 buildings in total).

Featuring a sophisticated Scandinavian modern design, "före" offers four guest room types with functional beauty. The functional and comfortable spaces are perfect for long stays or short weekend getaways. In the large public bath within the hotel, you can relax and unwind after your trip.

The living room is equipped with a kitchen sink and a wood-burning stove, and it is designed like a "villa in the Mori " where you can relax and enjoy the view of Wakuya . The log cabin-style villas are equipped with kitchenettes, fireplaces, and open-air or semi-open-air hot springs, allowing you to enjoy your time in privacy without worrying about others. The Hakone Retreat före & villa 1/f grounds are home to three restaurants: WOODSIDE dining, where you can enjoy wood-fire cooking; Tawaraishi, a Japanese restaurant; and cafe & lounge.

WOODSIDE dining

WOODSIDE dining's dinner menu is "Innovative Wood-Grilled," making the most of the power of wood fires. By skillfully using different types of firewood and different temperatures, the chefs maximize the potential of seasonal ingredients. Their cuisine is inspired by Japanese cuisine and other international influences. Enjoy a luxurious dining experience with dishes that combine elements such as dashi, fermentation, and spices, paired with carefully selected natural wines.

Tawaraishi Restaurant

Here, you can enjoy authentic kaiseki cuisine using seasonal ingredients, allowing you to simply enjoy the flavors of the ingredients. Enjoy the cuisine, which is imbued with the spirit of hospitality, using traditional Kyoto kaiseki knife techniques and carefully selected tableware to allow you to experience the seasons not only with your taste buds but also with your eyes.

The restaurant, Tawaraishi, is housed in a renovated building that was formerly the hot spring inn, Tawaraishikaku, beloved by many cultural figures. Guests can enjoy dishes that showcase the skill of the chef in a relaxed atmosphere, in private rooms that have been preserved as they were 100 years ago, or in a hall overlooking the garden, while taking in the texture and history of the aged trees.

Cafe & Lounge

You can enjoy delicious coffee made with freshly ground beans carefully selected by Hakone Retreat, as well as sweets. We also recommend stopping by on your walk to pick up some sweets to take home.

Hot Springs and Relaxation Surrounded by Forests

The large public bath is tucked away deep within the grounds. In the open-air bath, you can fully enjoy the Toyotomi, high-quality hot spring water while taking in the fresh air and taking in the scenery of the four seasons. Villa guests can also use the large public bath in the fore building.

Then, enjoy a spa treatment in a tranquil space surrounded by Mori, and experience a moment of bliss as you release your mind and body while listening to the sounds of nature.

How to Access the Facility 

Public Transportation 

From JR Shinjuku Station , take the Odakyu Romancecar bound for Hakone -Yumoto (approximately 90 minutes). Get off at Hakone Station. Then take the Hakone Tozan Bus bound for Togendai for approximately 23 minutes and get off at Tawaraishi/Glass no Mori-mae Mori stop. It is a 3-minute walk from the bus stop.

・Take the JR Tokaido Shinkansen from JR Tokyo Station bound for Osaka/Hakata and get off at Odawara Station (approximately 40 minutes). Then take the Hakone Tozan Bus bound for Togendai and get off at "Tawaraishi/Glass no Mori" (approximately 40 minutes). It is a 3-minute walk from the bus stop.

・Take the Keihin Express Bus from Haneda Airport (approximately 150 minutes), get off at the Hakone Sengoku Information Center, and walk for approximately 15 minutes.
