I was born and raised in Berlin, Germany and am living in Tokyo, Japan since 2008. I am native in German and English.

I am a cat-mom to three rescue cats and I have a deep love for 90s rock music, kickboxing, history, chocolate and cookie dough, anything pistachio flavored, cats and bats, dragons and vampires and all things creepy-cute.

My favorite book author is Anne Rice. My favorite band is LUNA SEA.

My most recommended Japanese movie is 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence', featuring David Bowie and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Japanese people love bread and they have many bakeries filled with unique creations such as curry pan (fried bread filled with curry) and melon pan (sweet bread with melon flavor and cookie crust).

The most common baked goods in Japan are white bread and fluffy pastries. Trying to find whole wheat or even sourdough bread often leads to disappointment as the texture and flavor usually differ from the ones overseas. Japanese people tend to prefer their bread airy and lighter in flavor.

BARTIZAN Bakery & Cafe in Tokyo specializes in healthy bread made with domestic wheat flour and in-house made yeast. The bread is freshly baked every day. BARTIZAN's bread doesn't use any butter, sugar or milk so it is suitable for vegans and health-conscious customers.

The Head Baker of BARTIZAN has refined her art of bread making and sourdough in serval countries outside Japan. She is so committed to baking that she even gives her sourdough names.

Aside from classic sourdough bread as well as rye sourdough bread, BARITZAN also offers different monthly flavors. The choices in September 2019 were "Olive and Rosemary" and "Fig and Walnut".

Depending on what ingredients the baker is working with the dough has to always be slightly adjusted so it is not to dry and not too moist. BARTIZANs bread always has the perfect texture. The mixture of the juicy olives and the rich bread was especially unique. Each of BARTIZAN's bread could easily be savored on their own.

During this time their signature sourdough as well as rye bread can be enjoyed simply with homemade butter or delicious toppings such as avocado and prosciutto. They also have take-out sandwiches if someone just wants to pick up a quick breakfast to enjoy at work.

Dinner time also includes home-made desserts. Try the "Vegan Coconut Banana Split" for a light, flavorful dessert. The whipped cream, as well as the ice cream, are made with coconut milk which balances the sweet caramelized banana well.
