The Waseda-Keio Games: Historical Background

In 1903, the student baseball teams of Waseda University and Keio University in Tokyo played a game, and since then, it has been recognized as a very popular baseball event. During the 1950s and 1960s, it was even more popular than professional baseball.

The Waseda-Keio Game is always scheduled for the final game of the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League, held at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo during spring and fall, drawing large crowds.

The appeal of the Waseda-Keio Game is not only the players' serious competition but also the unique cheering battle that has been passed down for over 100 years, reflecting the deep tradition of both schools.

The All Waseda-Keio Games: Alumni and Students Joining Forces

All Waseda Keio Game

The tradition of the All Waseda-Keio Games began in 1945, when a few alumni players were added to the teams during a Waseda-Keio game to increase the number of participants and enable the match to take place.

Since then, once or twice a year, an All Waseda-Keio Game is held somewhere in Japan, featuring a combined team of current students and alumni, and it has become popular among local communities.

In Nagoya, the event has been held every four years since 1957, and this will be the 16th time it has taken place.

You can enjoy the cheerleading performances and cheer activities traditionally seen in Tokyo games. You might even get to see cheering scenes similar to those in anime, and you can join in the cheer with others.

The seats on the first-base side are occupied by fans supporting Waseda University, while those on the third-base side are for fans supporting Keio University.

If you decide in advance which team to support, you'll enjoy the game even more! If you're unsure which team to cheer for, you can also watch from the usually expensive behind-the-net seats, where you can get a good view.

On the day of the event, free brochures are distributed to attendees, allowing them to learn about the players' names and the history of the Waseda-Keio games.
