Shinjuku is famous for its department stores and shopping malls showcasing the latest trends, along with a wide variety of entertainment facilities and restaurants. In contrast to the skyscrapers, old-fashioned bars and eateries line the streets along Shinjuku Golden Gai and Omoide Yokocho.

The observatory at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building has a fantastic view of the metropolis, with Shinjuku Gyoen offering a different scenery each season. Those wishing to stay in this area and experience its vibrancy should book a stay at the Kadoya Hotel.

Kadoya Hotel will be celebrating its 52nd anniversary in 2022. There were no skyscrapers in Shinjuku when the hotel first opened. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government building designed by the Japanese architect Kenzo Tange was completed in 1990. In other words, the hotel has witnessed the transformation of the Shinjuku district over the decades.

During the Edo Period, Shinjuku was the last shukuba (post town) for those traveling from Hakone on the Koshu Kaido, a highway connecting Edo (Tokyo) to Koshu (Yamanashi). There were many ryokans (Japanese-style inns) in the area; one of those lodgings was the predecessor of Kadoya Hotel.

Shinjuku transformed into a bustling urban hub after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. At this hotel, guests can immerse themselves in this ever-changing, vibrant district.

Our favorite menu was the authentic Japanese-style breakfast that consists of rice, grilled fish, miso soup, and side dishes. Guests should also try adding a raw egg on rice, which can be quite tasty.

Conversely, the Western-style breakfast is served with a fragrant French toast.
