9:00-10:17 -- Traveling to Miura Kaigan Station
The early blooming Kawazu sakura trees from Miura are located near Miura Kaigan Station.
Take the limited express train for Misakiguchi, which departs at 9:00 from Shinagawa Station, and you'll arrive at Miura Kaigan at 10:17.
10:20 - 11:30 -- Enjoy Early Cherry Blossoms in Miura
Miura City is located in the southeastern part of the Miura Peninsula and is known for its seaside resorts. In addition to beautiful beaches, Miura boasts the Kawazu Sakura Festival held annually from early February until early March. Kawazu-zakura is a type of early-blooming cherry tree; these trees are loved for their vivid pink blooms that grace the parks as early as February.
The row of Kawazu sakura trees is located a short 8-minute walk away from Miura Kaigan Station along the Keikyu Line near Komatsugaike Park.
The early cherry blossoms can be enjoyed here together with gorgeous rapeseed blossoms that bloom around the same time of the year. Come prepared to take stunning photos!
11:45-12:45 -- Delicious Sushi for Lunch at Kaisen
Kaisen is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant located near Miura Kaigan Station. They offer sushi made with fish caught locally and tuna (maguro), which is caught in ocean waters.
Here, you can use the B ticket to enjoy a gorgeous sushi menu called Marugoto Misaki-zukushi. This menu consists of twelve pieces of sushi, half of which are made using tuna. A drink is included and you can choose either a soft drink or a low-malt beer to have with the sushi.
I was simply impressed with the sushi! Every bite tasted delicious. And it's incredible what a variety of flavors can tuna have! I warmly recommend dining at Kaisen when visiting Miura.
13:00-13:30 -- Souvenir Shopping at Temiyage Iroiro Miura Store
Temiyage Iroiro Miura Store is located right across the street from Kaisen on the way to Miura Kaigan Station. This store offers pickles, jams, and dressings made by Takanashi Farm, which is located in Miura. The store also has a small selection of bread products and sweets, as well as pottery items.
Their jam line-up is impressive. In addition to fruit jams made with apples, kiwi, strawberry, yuzu citrus, and others, they even have tomato or carrot jam!
The jars of pickles are also very colorful and appealing; every piece of vegetable is cut by hand.
Here, you can use ticket C of the Misaki Maguro Day Trip Ticket to get a set of pickles and a jam of your choice! Isn't it amazing to receive two local souvenirs at a time?
I chose a pure apple jam that tasted very refreshing and a jar of pickles that contained carrots, turnips, and blue radish. The heart-shaped radish pieces were so cute!
13:41-14:17 -- Heading to Jogashima Island
In order to reach Jogashima Island, we suggest taking the 13:41 train headed to Misakiguchi Station. It's only one stop so you'll be reaching Misakiguchi at 13:43.
Once you exit the station, board the bus from platform 2, which departs at 13:49 heading to Jogashima Island. We suggest getting off at the last stop, Jogashima Gyokomae.
Use the back door to board the bus and just show your A ticket to the bus driver when getting off.
14:30-16:10 -- Jogashima Island Park: Splendid Ocean Views and Narcissus Flowers!
Jogashima Island lies offshore the Miura Peninsula. The island is home to a tranquil port town and a park that offers fabulous ocean views.
If you get off at the Jogashima bus stop, you reach the famous Jogashima Lighthouse on foot in a few minutes. This white structure stands out from afar and the area around it is an excellent observation point. Seeing the ocean spreading right before your eyes will surely leave a lasting impression.
The western part of the island is connected to the eastern part through a 1.2 km hiking course along the southern shore. This trail is easy to walk, flanked by greenery, and full of scenic views that include bizarre rock formations.
One of these spectacular rock formations carved by the wind and the waves is Umanose Domon, or the Horseback Cave. You'll have to descend some stairs in order to reach it but it's definitely worth the hike!
In early February, the way toward the eastern side of the island is flanked with daffodils. Jogashima is famous for its daffodils and even hosts a festival to celebrate them. These flowers fill the air with their sweet fragrance.
You'll be walking while listening to the sounds of the waves and of seagulls. Jogashima is a very tranquil place where you can feel connected to nature.
Even more beautiful daffodils await on the eastern side of Jogashima Island. I suggest exploring the park freely and climbing into the observation platforms to see the ocean. To the north, you'll see the Misaki Port, while the Boso Peninsula is visible to the east.
Jogashima Park is an excellent destination if you wish to recharge with positive energy in the heart of nature.
16:22-16:50 - Taking the Bus Back to Misakiguchi Station
The nearest bus stop to Jogashima Park is Hakushuhi-mae bus stop. If you leave the park by 16:10, you'll be able to catch the bus departing at 16:22 for Misakiguchi Station. Buses leave every 30 minutes.
From Misakiguchi Station, there is a train leaving at 17:03 for Shinagawa Station. You can either travel on this train all the way or change to the special express headed for Aoto at Keikyu Kurihama Station, which is even a faster option.
