Shin-Yakushiji Temple, an ancient temple representing Nara

Shin-Yakushiji Temple is an ancient temple representative of Nara, founded 1,300 years ago. The main hall, the principal image of Yakushi Nyorai, and some of the twelve heavenly generals, including General Basara, are designated as national treasures.

Special viewing of Buddhist statues not open to the public and cultural property repairs

To mark the occasion of the two-year repair work being carried out on the national treasure Yakushi Nyorai, we will be hosting tours of the repair work and an explanatory lecture on the protection and repair of cultural properties.

Shin-Yakushiji Temple is close to Nara Park, famous for its deer and Great Buddha, and Naramachi, a popular cafe and souvenir spot, making it the perfect place to enjoy the ancient city of Nara.

13:00 Meet at Shin-Yakushiji Temple

・Special viewing with commentary of important cultural properties not open to the public (30 minutes)

・Special tour of the National Treasure "Wooden Seated Yakushi Nyorai Statue" with explanation of its repair work (30 minutes)

・Explanatory lecture by an expert on cultural property protection and restoration (approximately 1 hour)

・Free viewing etc. (Staff will assist you)

Cancellation by 23:59 three days before the reservation date: No cancellation fee

Cancellation by 23:59 one day before the reservation date: 50% cancellation fee

Cancellation on the day of reservation or without notice: 100% cancellation fee

If the event cannot be held due to bad weather, natural disasters, or other reasons at the discretion of the organizer, no cancellation fee will be charged.

Event Terms and Conditions

[Notes and Guidance]

For the purpose of maintaining the facilities, we will need personal information of all participants (name, address, contact information, date of birth, and whether they are an adult, university student, high school student, junior high school student, or elementary school student).

This tour is for ages 7 and up. Please note that children under 7 years old cannot participate.

On this tour, please cooperate by following the guide's instructions to keep the group moving smoothly.

The temple contains national treasures and valuable cultural properties. In addition, visitors other than those attending the event are also visiting the temple, so please follow the guide's instructions when viewing.

You can receive a goshuin stamp at the temples and shrines you visit. Please note that due to time constraints, the types of goshuin stamps available may be limited.

The event fee includes the temple admission fee and the special lecture participation fee. However, please note that the transportation fee to the meeting place and from the breakup place, and the fee for the temple seal and the purchase of goods at the temples and shrines you visit will be borne by you.

Please note that we cannot take responsibility for any injuries incurred due to the carelessness of participants.

The end time may be delayed depending on the schedule, weather, etc. Please note that we will not be able to provide taxis, accommodation, or meals or refund requests even if the schedule is significantly delayed.

[What to do in case of rain or stormy weather]

This tour will proceed rain or shine. If it rains, please bring rain gear such as an umbrella or raincoat.

In the event of severe weather such as high winds or lightning warnings, we will make a decision before the event and will notify the contact details if the event is cancelled.

Todaiji Temple is close to the Great Buddha of Nara and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, so you can also use this tour as an opportunity to do some sightseeing.
