Toukatsu Kiln Ichino Katsuiso

While studying economics at university, Katsuki Ichino, the seventh generation owner of Toshogama, learned painting from Western painter Ken Osame, and after graduating from university, he studied sculpture at Musashino Art Academy. I studied under Hiromi Itabashi, a ceramic artist in Mitaka City, Tokyo.

Mr. Katsuiso, who returned to Tamba Sasayama after various training, continues to pursue the possibilities of pottery as a form of art and continues to create unique works.

His signature work is an object made by layering white clay on top of red clay and carbonizing it. Mr. Katsuiso's technique is to create a warmth and unique mellow atmosphere while retaining the earthy feel of the cube through roughness and cracks. The sophisticated formative beauty is a new form reminiscent of the world of Zen.

He continues to present new works one after another, moving back and forth between modern vessels with simple colors for everyday use and objects that pursue beauty. To what extent can I express the beauty of form through pottery? That is my life's work.

The sparkling blue mesh pattern created by Mr. Katsuiso's father, Mr. Masaru Ichino, the sixth generation owner of Katsugama Pottery, is a vessel that shines with the skills of a traditional craftsman. The types that parents and children make are completely different, so take a look and compare them at the shop attached to the workshop.

Ceramics classes are held at the studio on the first Saturday of every month. Please contact us for details. The HP has English support.

Gokama Tetsuji Ichino

The pottery made by Tetsuji Ichino, the fifth generation owner of Gokuma, is characterized by the use of a unique technique called colored line inlay. Smooth curves and geometric patterns are carved and drawn freehand using thin nails.

Tetsuji's colored line inlays create a unique world view through the balance of strong forms and delicate lines. The large pot matches both Japanese and Western settings.

The thickness and shape of cups and bowls have been carefully thought out so that the texture and feel of the cup or bowl blends with your skin when you touch it. The beautiful line-carved pattern and muted colors give off a tasteful beauty within its sourness, adding grace to your dining table.

``Gogama'' is located on a hill above Kamidatekui. If you are walking, there is a passageway on the south side about halfway up the oldest climbing kiln.

Yahogama Hideyuki Ichino

"Mayahogama" is a home of three potters: fourth-generation Hideyuki Ichino, eldest son Kenta, and second son Daisuke, who create standard items called "kamono" as well as works that take advantage of each individual's individuality. . Therefore, it is unique that you can find a wide variety of pottery in one workshop.

The most typical pottery is bright pastel-colored pottery, which is also used in popular cafes.

Hideyuki's work has a strong folk art feel while giving a modern feel. We continue to create unique pieces by incorporating new shapes, colors, and patterns while valuing the techniques that have been passed down. It was Hideyuki who introduced the unusual dot patterns and pastel colors to Tamba ware.

Daisuke, who trained at a Kiyomizu-yaki pottery in Kyoto, has a unique neo-classic style that evokes the warmth and cuteness of earth. If you have it on your dining table, it's a pattern that you'll want to take a closer look at.

A gallery of ``Mayahogama'' located along the Shitodani River. Ceramics classes are also held at the workshop. Please contact us for details.

“Tenseiro Set Meal” (2,190 yen)

The 100 percent soba noodles, which are made by hand every morning after grinding domestically-produced grains in a stone mill, are sure to impress soba fans with their aroma and delicious taste. The soba noodles slip into your mouth and become chewy when you bite into them, and are dipped in a rich soba soup made with a good dashi.

Set meals that include warm soba noodles, freshly fried tempura, and small side dishes are also popular.

``Soba Kiri Yurusato'' is located right next to the Imada branch entrance intersection on the Dekansho road. The restaurant will close once the soba noodles are sold out, so those looking for soba should arrive early.
