Kobe wine is made using grapes grown in Kobe

Kobe Winery (Agricultural Park) (hereafter referred to as Kobe Winery) is located about 30 minutes by car from Sannomiya in the Nishi Ward of Kobe. The facility is located on a small hill in Oshibedani, Kobe City , Kobe, and has a large area of ​​about eight Koshien Stadiums.

If you are traveling by public transport, it is about a 20-minute bus ride from Chuo Station on the Kobe Municipal Subway. The 120 or 27 Wing Shinki buses stop in the parking lot of Kobe Winery, so they are conveniently close to the entrance.

As the name "winery" suggests, there are vineyards and a wine factory on the premises where Kobe wine is produced. Winemaking at Kobe Winery began in 1983. Miyazaki Miyazaki, who was the mayor of Kobe at the time, suggested making wine to promote Kobe beef, a Kobe specialty.

During the wine-making season, you can see the machinery in action.

Areas like Nishi Ward and Setouchi Kita Ward in Kobe City have little rain and plenty of sunshine, making them the perfect place for winemaking, and Kobe Winery and contracted farms in the Kita Ward have started growing grapes specifically for wine.

The contracted farmers have also traveled to Europe to study grape growing methods, and the varieties grown in Kobe are mainly European grapes. The reason why Kobe Winery's wine is so delicious is that the harvesting area is close to the factory, so the wine can be made using fresh grapes.

For those new to wine, we recommend the Kobe Kobe Select series (1,650 yen each). The alcohol content is around 11 to 12 percent. It has a light mouthfeel and no bitterness, making it easy to drink even for beginners.

For wine lovers, we recommend "Benediction" (3,520 yen each). This is a special wine made from grapes harvested from the highest quality fields among the many available, and then hand-selecting only the best grapes to ferment in barrels.

By the way, the 2016 red wine became a hot topic when it was served at the dinner party of the G20 Summit held in Osaka in 2019.

If you are looking for a wine to give as a gift, why not try the cutely labeled "Living with Cats" series (2,800 yen each). Even though it's called " Kobe Winery," it's not just a wine facility. There are plenty of places for families with children to enjoy within the grounds, including a barbecue area, a playground, go-karts, and a spot for putting golf.

During wine-making season, the delicious aroma of grapes wafts from all over the grounds of Kobe Winery.
