Course A: Enjoy the Tennoz streetscape and large wall art

First, you will ride an electric scooter and experience Course A. Course A allows you to travel by either a scooter or a next-generation electric wheelchair, WHILL.

Don't worry if this is your first time riding a scooter! There will be a lecture and practice time before the tour starts.

The tour itself will be guided by staff, but explanations of the art will be provided via an app. Smartphones and bone conduction earphones will be provided, and the app's dedicated avatar, Shiori Saotome, will provide explanations in English, Japanese, and Chinese.

So, let's try out the tour now!

The first spot is "Swirly circulation." This artwork is based on the theme of circulation and is set on the former site of a waste disposal plant and landfill along the canal.

There is no need to take off or put on the earphones, so you can listen to the commentary while taking your time to look at the artwork.

Next is a three-dimensional work called "This is Mr. Shirai."
"Mr. Shirai" is a blue figure perched in the sunlight filtering through the trees.
In Tennoz, a place where preservation and creation come together, Mr. Shirai is someone who imports "hope" and brings about unique change and development.

One of the fun things about this art tour is the AR photos.

After listening to the guide on the smartphone you were given, select "Take a photo" and a 3D character based on the artwork will appear!

By using the AR photo function on your smartphone, you can place the artwork on your hand and take a commemorative photo.<br>

It's also fun to use perspective to try holding Mr. Shirai on the palm of your hand, or to take AR photos with other participants.

Ride a scooter through the dappled sunlight and feel the breeze.

"Planters aquarium" focuses on the Tennoz area, which has no marine life, and depicts marine life swimming freely in the sea inside planters. Take a leisurely stroll through the cityscape while looking at the colorful and fun-looking creatures.

Next, we went to the art piece in the park, "See a Song." This piece expresses the atmosphere of the Tennoz area, where you can almost hear singing and music. The park, bustling with people strolling and playing baseball, is bright and lively, just like this piece. The appeal of this tour is that you can also enjoy the atmosphere of the town.

Keeenue

We rode an electric scooter along the side of the baseball field. It felt so good under the blue sky!

The large wall art piece "Connecting to the Ends." It is based on the theme of water, a symbol of vitality. You can also enjoy AR photos here.

Sculpture "Anonymous." When you move your viewpoint, the complex connections and overlapping of stainless steel wires create a moire effect. Get off the scooter and look at it from different positions.

"Wrapping" painted on a container along the canal and "River Eyes" painted on a wall are cute pop art. "River Eyes" was inspired by the high-rise buildings of Tennoz, the nature such as rivers and greenery, and the gaze of people looking at art.

The art tour continues as we take our time admiring the art and nature of Tennoz.

The route off the main street is sure to excite your sense of adventure.

When you come out onto Bond Street, you will come across the large mural "'The Shamisen' Shinagawa 2019." Inspired by Suzuki Harunobu's ukiyo-e print "Mitate Akutagawa," the mural depicts the Tennoz landscape woven together with an impressive ukiyo-e print that can be seen from the opposite bank of the canal.

"Catgrapher" is a work filled with humor and irony, in which cats, who are supposed to be the subjects of photography, take pictures of humans instead. Have fun taking pictures of the cats, or getting close to them and looking through the camera.

Tennoz Isle is an "island" surrounded by canals on all sides. Since the island was developed as an art island from the beginning, there are theaters and art halls, and the townscape has an artistic feel to it. Since its establishment, our association has set the goal of increasing awareness of Tennoz Isle and creating excitement in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Games, and has undertaken various initiatives such as the Tennoz Canal Fes and the Tennoz Art Festival. Our next goal is to turn Tennoz Isle into a tourist destination, and we are working on further refining the existing content. Furthermore, we are developing an art tour to sell the artworks that we have been installing as local tourism products. Creating the function of a tourist information center that receives visiting tourists. Through these initiatives, we aim to become a new urban tourist destination in Tokyo.
