The tour we are introducing this time is...
Your tour begins at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, synonymous with Kyoto tourism. The temple's appearance amidst the natural surroundings is always a sight to behold. After visiting Kiyomizu-dera Temple, you can stroll along the enchanting Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka slopes, lined with traditional wooden houses and charming shops. Next, you'll visit Kodai-ji Temple, famous for its cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, as well as the beautiful bamboo forest within its grounds. After saying goodbye to Kodai-ji Temple, you'll next visit Chion-in Temple, with its tranquil presence, solemn mountain gate and tranquil gardens. Your trip ends in the Gion Shirakawa area and Gion Geisha Town, packed with the charms of Kyoto. If you're lucky, you'll be captivated by the graceful figures of the geisha in their stunning kimonos.
Otowayama Kiyomizu-dera Temple was founded in 778, about 1,250 years ago. As a sacred place for the Kannon Bodhisattva, who symbolizes great mercy, it has been open to the general public since ancient times and has been loved by a wide range of people. Old historical documents and literature depict many people enjoying their visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
The temple grounds, which cover an area of 130,000 square meters and are spread across the middle of Mt. Otowa in the east of Kyoto, are lined with over 30 temple buildings, some of which are national treasures and important cultural properties. Since its founding, the temple has been hit by more than 10 major fires, destroying the buildings each time, but it has been rebuilt many times thanks to the devout faith of the temple's residents. Most of the current temple buildings were rebuilt in 1633. In 1994, it was registered as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, "Cultural Monuments of Ancient Kyoto."
Kodaiji Temple is popular for its seasonal light-ups, which are held for a limited time.
In the past, projection mapping has been held here, allowing visitors to enjoy the art of light projected onto the Hashintei Garden.
Near Kodaiji Temple is Kenninji Temple, known as the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto.
You can also see beautiful autumn leaves at Kenninji Temple.
Chion-in Temple is the head temple of the Jodo sect of Buddhism. It is home to many important cultural properties, including the Sanmon Gate, one of the largest wooden double gates in Japan, and the main hall, Mikage-do, which enshrines the founder, Honen Shonin.
Recommended spots to view the autumn leaves are the gardens, Yuzen-en and Hojo Garden, located just east of the Sanmon Gate. They are also lit up at night, creating a fantastical atmosphere.
A bridge with wooden railings and the sound of a stream flowing underneath.
It seems that tea houses used to be crowded on the north side of the river as well, and the "Kanikakuni" monument, west of Shinbashi, engraved with the famous poem "Kanikakuni Gion, I long for it, even when I sleep, the water flows under my pillow", stands on the site of "Otomo", a tea house frequented by poet Yoshii Isamu. Until it was demolished due to wartime evacuation, "Otomo"'s tatami room was built overhanging the Shirakawa River. At one point, the scenery was lost, but thanks to the enthusiasm of the local people, the Shirakawa River has now returned to a place where carp swim and ducks play. The area is full of atmosphere all year round, with beautiful weeping cherry blossoms in spring, willows casting their shadows on the river surface, and autumn leaves in autumn.
Gion is a historic entertainment district that represents Japan and is located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. This area has flourished as a geisha district since the Edo period, and many traditional buildings and cultures remain today, making it popular with tourists. Yasaka Shrine is located in the center of Gion, and it is also famous as the birthplace of the Gion Festival, one of Japan's three major festivals.
Hanamikoji-dori, a representative street, is lined with teahouses and restaurants, and the scenery spreads out with maiko and geisha coming and going. You can enjoy historical buildings and beautiful gardens while feeling the atmosphere of Gion. It is also known as a gourmet town where many high-class restaurants and restaurants gather and you can enjoy Kyoto cuisine. With its rich history and culture, as well as beautiful scenery, it is a spot you definitely want to stop by when visiting Kyoto. Many tourists visit and enjoy the charm of Gion.
