However, as you all know, the temperature in Okinawa is hot, and winter on the Hon Island coincides with autumn in Okinawa, so cosmos begin to bloom in Okinawa from around the end of January.

1. Haneji Cosmos Field (Nago City)

How to get to Haneji Cosmos Fields from Naha

Access by public transport

Take bus number 111 from "Domestic Passenger Terminal" (terminus, for international flights) and get off at "Nago Bus Terminal" (ride time: 1 hour 48 minutes). Then, transfer to bus number 72 from "Nago Bus Terminal" (for Nago City) and get off at "Oyagawa Iriguchi" (ride time: 19 minutes). After getting off, it is a 10-minute walk (total time: 2 hours 30 minutes).

2. Igei Cosmos Fields (Kunigami District)

The Igei Cosmos Fields were started by the residents of Igei Ward in a rice field of about 20,500 square meters and are at their best in mid-February. The Igei Ward Cosmos Festival is held every year in late February when the flowers are at their best. On the day of the festival, you can enter the rice field and pick up to 20 cosmos stalks. Access by public transport

Take bus number 117 from "Domestic Passenger Terminal Mae" (terminus, for international flights) and get off at "Ishikawa IC" (ride time: 59 minutes). Then, transfer to bus number 22 from "Ishikawa Telephone Bureau Mae" (for Akazaki) and get off at "Igei" (ride time: 12 minutes). After getting off, it is a 4-minute walk (total time: 1 hour 38 minutes)

Access by car: Head north, turn left at Wakasa intersection and enter Prefectural Route 82. Then enter the Okinawa Expressway and head north for 28km onto National Route 329. (Approximate travel time: 55 minutes)

Nakijin Castle Sakura Festival

A cherry blossom festival is held every year from late January to early February at the Nakijin Castle Ruins, a World Heritage Site.
