New interpretation of guilloche
This time, we took on the challenge of creating a so-called guilloche dial. I say "challenge" because it actually took about three and a half years to research and develop this dial, and it really was a challenge. A normal guilloche dial is engraved on a flat surface, but this watch inherits the tradition of Chrono Tokyo and has the guilloche engraved on a bombe dial. As you can see, the pyramid-shaped pattern in the center gently slopes towards the outside of the dial, and creating the prototype for this was extremely difficult in the first place. The blank for the dial is made much thicker than usual, and even the deep recesses for the power reserve and 24-hour display are molded as a single piece. Making this as sharp as possible was also a very high technical hurdle. In the end, I think we were able to create an elegant dial with strong shadows. " - Hajime Asaoka
In-house Improved Movement
In order to make the most of the guilloche design, Asaoka aimed for a classic and clean dial with the date window removed. However, there was no domestic movement with the design Asaoka wanted, so he improved the caliber in-house. In 2022, Kurono purchased the entire stock of Cal. 9134, which was no longer in production, and in this work, we use the Cal. 9134PWT, which we modified in-house.
