Hello! I'm Shutaro Onishi, a member of the CEC. LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO is an immersive experience of biodiversity and the perspective of plants, created by Moment Factory through a collaboration of light, sound, and a variety of plants, set in the observation greenhouse of the Kyoto Prefectural Botanic...
What is "LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO"?
Introducing the overview
"LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO" is a limited-time event (October 18th to December 26th, 2024) being held at Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Gardens, the oldest public botanical garden in Japan, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary since its opening.
Based on the theme of "biodiversity," Moment Factory, one of the world's leading multimedia studios, will create a collaboration of light, sound, and projections, allowing visitors to explore the four zones of the botanical garden and immerse themselves in the unique perspectives of plants, their interactions with nature, and the communication between plants.
As an event that connects the charm of the botanical gardens to the next generation, it is popular with young people, families with children, and those looking to enjoy a relaxed nightlife.
Introducing the concepts and highlights of the four zones
Zone 1: "LIGHT WILL FIND YOU"
">
Forget about your busy everyday life and look up at the trees in the forest and make new discoveries.
When you enter the greenhouse, you will be greeted by a gentle warmth, the scent of plants, and soothing music, which will naturally help to warm up your body that is frozen outside.
In "LIGHT WILL FIND YOU," light that mimics sunlight filtering through the trees pours into the jungle room, allowing you to experience a magical world.
ZONE 2: MEMORY OF WATER
"MEMORY OF WATER" depicts the water cycle with light, allowing you to enjoy the mysterious sensation of tracing the "memory of water ." The "useful crop room," where bananas, mangoes, and other crops grow, is designed to allow you to stop and enjoy the experience of light in a tropical rainforest atmosphere.
ZONE 3: (IN)VISIBLE
The most popular exhibit, "(IN)VISIBLE," allows you to enjoy the mysterious rhythms and perspectives of plants.
In the "Desert Savannah Room," you can experience a new perspective through the otherworldly plants and lighting, and get a real sense that the plants are "still motionless, but alive."
Personally, I was surprised that the lighting effects could be enjoyed the same way no matter what angle you looked at it from.
ZONE 4: FOREST FREQUENCIES
The final zone, "FOREST FREQUENCIES," expresses "communication between plants."
Recent research has revealed that plants use signals to communicate with each other. In this zone, you can experience the interactions between plants through light and sound effects.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary, the theme of this zone is "celebration," and the music and spatial presentation will excite visitors through all five senses.
Transition Area
There are transition areas between zones 2, 3, and 4, which express the eerie and mysterious nature of nocturnal plants.
There will also be a spot at the venue where visitors can experience mapping. Please come and find it!
Introducing the "KYOTO BOTANICAL GARDENS STORE" which will be open for a limited time
">
In addition to merchandise commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Kyoto Botanical Gardens, the KYOTO BOTANICAL GARDENS STORE sells items that allow you to enjoy the charm of plants that you felt at LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO at home. They stock carefully selected botanical teas, interior items, vases, coasters, calendars, and more, all with themes of plants, light, and craft!
Students, please take advantage of the "Student Support Campaign"!
At "LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO," you can experience a fantastical world woven together with digital art and plants, spending a quiet moment in an art exhibition that's perfect for an evening stroll and enjoying a relaxing nightlife.
In particular, if you want to enjoy a leisurely time, we recommend going a little later, after 7:00 p.m.
In addition, starting December 3, 2024, a "Student Support Campaign" will be held for students and vocational trainees, selling tickets for 1,500 yen instead of the usual 2,500 yen for entry after 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.
Through this project, Kyoto Prefecture and the Kyoto Botanical Garden Art Night Walk Executive Committee are working to convey the importance of "biodiversity," the theme of "LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO," and to ensure that the Kyoto Botanical Garden remains a beloved place for another 100 years to come.
Why not escape from your busy daily life and relax in the comfortable space of "LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO"?
