Located in the Tambara Highlands of Gunma Prefecture, the beautiful Tambara Lavender Park becomes an ocean of lavender in summer, from mid July until mid August.

The Tambara Highlands are a hugely popular summer getaway spot for those living and staying in Tokyo. Due to its altitude, the average temperature in August is 25°C (77°F), a whole 5°C (41°F) cooler than the Tokyo metropolitan area.

The park is not only stunningly beautiful but offers some unique, highly Instagrammable lavender-flavor treats that cannot be tasted elsewhere! These include their purple lavender soft-serve ice cream, lavender scones and even cold lavender ramen with purple noodles!!

Tambara Lavender Park

Location: Gunma, Numata, Tambara Highlands
Access: 45 minutes by taxi from Numata Station. From July 16 until August 15, there is a complimentary shuttle bus service available for the first 20 visitors departing at 10:40 from Numata Station (*reservation required).
Alternatively, you can take a city bus on the Kashozan Line (no. 324 or 325) departing at 9:20 or 12:26 from Numata Station; the city bus reaches Tambara Lavender Park in approximately one hour and 7 minutes (*this bus line is available only on Saturdays and Sundays).
Park Opening Period: July 9 - August 21
Hours: 18:30 - 17:00 (last admission 15:45)
Best Season for Viewing Lavender: From mid-July until mid-August
Admission: 1,000 yen (free for children up to junior high school age)
