Atami Marine Firework Festival: This August in Atami

Atami, the popular hot spring resort in Shizuoka, is hosting the Atami Marine Firework Festival throughout the year, with more than 15 firework displays planned for 2023.

This summer, you can experience five stunning fireworks events along the peaceful Atami Bay on August 5, 8, 18, 22, and 25!

Highlights of the Atami Marine Firework Festival

Each night of the event, around 3,000 fireworks paint the sky and ocean waters of Atami.

Atami Bay is said to be the best area in Japan to watch fireworks due to being surrounded by mountains that cause cinematic booms. Echos from fireworks bounce throughout Atami Bay, creating impressive acoustics.

In the grand finale of the event, special cosmic fireworks known as Air Niagara will be launched, shattering sparkles of silver light into the atmosphere with a sonic boom.

Raining down beautiful streams of color alongside Air Niagara, the fireworks known as Sky Niagara launch star mines across the entire venue ending the magnificent event with a bang.

History of the Atami Marine Firework Festival

The Atami Marine Firework Festival first started in 1952 as a celebration of the restoration of the town after a series of unfortunate events. From the 140 houses washed out into the sea by a strong typhoon in 1949 to the fire that broke out in front of Atami Station in 1950 spreading in the town, the area had seen a lot of devastation.

Now, Atami is a popular tourist attraction, welcoming guests with its steaming hot springs and beautiful bay.

Atami celebrates its victory in reviving the town's culture each year with this traditional firework festival being passed down from generation to generation. 2023 marks the festival's 75th anniversary.

Limited Seats are provided for those who want relaxing views from the bay under starlight.

Ajiro Onsen Marine Firework Festival

Ajiro Onsen, located near Atami, is also holding a firework festival on August 16.

The Ajiro Onsen Tourism Association has prepared a special plan in which those who book with Ajiro Onsen can reserve seating and transportation to and from the fireworks. For more information on seat reservations and the hotel's special features visit the official website.

Ajiro Bay will be lit up by 3,000 fireworks which include some special fish shape fireworks!
