The Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms will soon be in full bloom, especially on the lawn square and overlook hill!

The cherry blossoms at Hitsujiyama Park, a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Chichibu City, will soon be in full bloom (as of April 7).
In recent years, snow has accumulated and hidden the cherry blossoms after they have bloomed.
The Chichibu Marche will be held from April 5th on the hill where the moss pinks are just beginning to bloom, so even if you come empty-handed you can still enjoy some sake and local specialties, making this a recommended cherry blossom viewing spot.

What is Hitsujiyama Park?

Located on the east side of Chichibu City and included in the northwestern part of the Prefectural Buko Natural Park, Hitsujiyama Park is surrounded by lush greenery and is a popular place for local residents to relax. The natural scenery of the four seasons, including the moss pinks in spring, welcomes visitors to the park.
Hitsujiyama Park is known as a park that was designed by Dr. Seiroku Honda. Dr. Honda designed parks throughout Japan for about 35 years during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, and is known as the "father of Japanese parks."

Moss Phlox Hill

On the south side of Hitsujiyama Park, on a hilly area overlooking Mount Buko, the symbol of Chichibu, to the east, is the Shibazakura Hill, which is covered with white, pink, and pale blue flowers in spring. This year, many people came to take a stroll around the area. Over 400,000 moss phlox plants of 10 varieties are planted in an area of about 17,600 square meters.

View Hill

Miharashi Hill has long been a popular cherry blossom viewing spot. From Miharashi Hill, you can literally see the whole of Chichibu city.
Park facilities include the Yamato Art Museum and the Buko Mountain Museum.

Fureai Ranch

The Fureai Ranch is located close to the Shibazakura Hill. Hitsujiyama Park was formerly the site of the Saitama Prefecture Breeding Farm Chichibu Branch, which handled sheep. It is said that this is where the name Hitsujiyama came from. The ranch raises Japanese Corriedale sheep.

Grass Square

On the north side of Sakura Hill, towards the center of the park, there is a grassy area. Cherry trees such as Somei-Yoshino are planted on this grassy area, and in spring, people can be seen enjoying cherry blossom viewing under the trees.

Iris fields

Irises are planted in the "Iris Field" located to the south of the tennis courts. In 2006, a garden path leading from the iris field to the moss phlox hill was constructed. When the flowers are in full bloom, the whole area is covered in vibrant purple and white flowers. This is a different early summer look for Hitsujiyama Park from the gorgeousness of the cherry blossoms and moss phlox.

Naughty Square

Located almost in the center of the park, Wanpaku Square, which leads to the grassy area, is surrounded by trees.
The playground is equipped with wooden play equipment that blends in well with the surrounding scenery.
*The playground equipment is regularly inspected for safety, but please make sure that children are accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian when playing.
