What is "Uraja"?

Uraja is a festival held by the people of Okayama Prefecture based on the "Ura legend," the origin of the demons that are passed down in Okayama Prefecture.

Other dancers, wearing oni makeup called "Ura Kesho", perform passionate dances in the city streets to the accompaniment of original music.

Participants wanted! Beginners welcome! Participants will receive a commemorative gift.

We are looking for dance groups for people who want to have the best experience on their trip to Okayama. A lecture will be given by staff at the venue on the day, so even those who are not confident in their dancing can participate with peace of mind!

Costumes and makeup will be provided, so please wear clothes that are easy to move in. Let's join us and make Uraja more exciting!

12:00-12:40: Reception @ Okayama Arts and Creative Theater, 1st floor

12:50-16:30: (scheduled) Practice, 1 performance venue, 1 parade venue

Entry fee

Dancer (elementary school age or younger): 3,000 yen

Parent dancer 1 person: 5,000 yen

Accompaniment only: 1,000 yen

Participants: Elementary school students and younger, and their guardians

It's happening again this year! This is an event where you can enjoy Uraja while cooling off near Okayama Castle on a summer night.

In addition to offering original gourmet food unique to Uraja, there will be festival booths and a mini dance. Also, "Summer U-jo (Crow Castle)Togenkyo " will be held at Okayama Castle , and "Summer FANTASY GARDEN（GENSO-TEIEN） " will be held at Okayama Korakuen Garden . On this night, please enjoy touring the city of Okayama with Uraja.

Okayama Castle(Ujo (Crow Castle))

This castle was built by Ukita Hideie, a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and one of the Five Elders of Toyotomi. The unusual scalene pentagonal, three-story, six-storey castle tower has a dignified appearance, and its black clapboard exterior has earned it the nickname "Ujo Ujo (Crow Castle)." From the Mogami, you can look down on the Asahikawa, and enjoy a 360-degree view of Okayama Korakuen Garden and the city. The original castle tower was destroyed in an air raid in 1945 (Showa 20), but has now been rebuilt, with the lord's room and other areas restored. On the first floor, there is a Bizen Pottery workshop where you can try your hand at clay twisting. In addition, the popular " U-jo (Crow Castle)Togenkyo " event is held in spring, summer and autumn, where the Okayama Castle tower and surrounding area are lit up.

Okayama Korakuen Garden

A large garden built by Tsunamasa Ikeda, the second lord of the Okayama domain, as a place for relaxation. The spacious garden, decorated with seasonal flowers, is a different world just like the Edo period. In 1952, it was designated as a “Special Place of Scenic Beauty” as a historical and cultural heritage site, and received a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. Various events are held throughout the four seasons, such as tea gathering and moon viewing, and for a limited time, you can enjoy the ``Fantasy Garden,'' which is specially opened at night and lights up the garden in a different way than during the day. Volunteer guides (free of charge) are also popular with tourists.
