[From Eeyan ! Osaka Shopping Street] Experience the sparkle of life living with the sea at "Kaiyukan"
Now featured in "Eeyan! Osaka Shopping Street"! Introducing the best Shopping Street experiences and tourist spots you'll want to try if you come to Osaka! We're providing information on how to see, eat, play, and enjoy Osaka's Shopping Street to the fullest. If you read this, you'll want to come to...
If you head towards the sea from Osakako Station on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line through the Tempozan shopping area, you will come across a building with a blue exterior painted with sea creatures and a glass roof with a striking contrast of red, blue and transparent colors. This is the popular tourist spot in the Osaka Bay Area, "Kaiyukan."
Based on the idea that "the Earth and the creatures that live on it are one living organism that interact with each other," Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan has recreated the environment in which creatures live within the museum as an "environmental exhibit." The exhibits are arranged in a corridor style, allowing visitors to encounter sea creatures as they walk through them.
Once you pass through the tunnel-shaped aquarium "Aqua Gate," you will finally begin your journey to the oceans of the world. Tanks such as "Japanese Forest," "Panama Bay," "Antarctica," and "Chilean Reef Zone" are next, with the "Pacific Ocean" tank at the center.
In the "Japanese Forest," a river flows between the trees and rocks, and Asian small-clawed otters play freely around the water's edge. We also spotted mandarin ducks, amago trout, and crayfish.
In "Monterey Bay" you can see California sea lions and spotted seals. The California sea lions, with their round shape, look out from the glass and ask you to play, bringing a smile to your face.
The Pacific white-sided dolphin swims leisurely in the Tasman Sea. It is a small dolphin, and its smart swimming style is very stylish.
The largest tank at Kaiyukan is the Pacific Ocean, where many different kinds of sharks, rays and other creatures swim, but the largest of them all is the whale shark, which gives off a sense of dignity as the king of the sea.
If you sign up for the "Whale Shark Backyard" (additional charge), you can experience watching whale sharks and other creatures swimming in the "Pacific Ocean" from above in the aquarium.
If you take your time to explore the museum, two hours will fly by. It's popular every day, so we recommend you make a reservation online. Please come and experience the sparkle of life that continues to live with the sea.

Osaka's shopping streets support the lives and employment of the prefecture's residents, play an important role as regional infrastructure, and are attractive as places for local people to interact. With an eye on the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, we have opened the portal site "Eeyan! Osaka Shopping Streets" as an initiative to promote the appeal of Osaka's shopping streets and stores and digitize them. "Wow, there's a shopping street like this! I'll go check it out next time!" Please use "Eeyan! Osaka Shopping Streets" to discover new aspects of shopping streets you didn't know about or your local shopping street, and to have wonderful encounters with shopping streets.
