Introducing the best spots to enjoy Mt. Fuji and autumn leaves

We will introduce three gorgeous scenic spots where you can enjoy both Mt. Fuji and the autumn leaves, recommended by the staff at Hotel Associa Shizuoka.
Hotel Associa Shizuoka is located just a one-minute walk from the north exit of JR Shizuoka Station. It is close to the station and easy to travel by train. In addition, Toyota Rent-a-Car is located on-site, making it a convenient hotel for sightseeing by car.

1. Mt. Fuji Skyline (The best viewing time is usually around October 20th to 25th)

The first scenic spot is the Mt. Fuji Skyline. Built in 1970, the Mt. Fuji Skyline is the nickname of the Shizuoka Prefectural Road on the southern foot of Mt. Fuji that connects Fujinomiya City and Gotemba City in Shizuoka Prefecture. It is also a road that provides access to the Fujinomiya Exit Fuji 5th Station, one of the bustling climbing entrances to Mt. Fuji.

The highest point in Japan that can be reached by car

If you drive along the Mt. Fuji Skyline, you can reach the Fujinomiya Exit Fuji 5th Station Parking Lot, one of the trailheads for Mt. Fuji (※). This is located at an altitude of about 2,400m, making it the highest point in Japan that can be reached by car. Due to its high altitude, it is also popular for the frequent opportunities to encounter seas of clouds. It takes about two hours by car to get there from Hotel Associa Shizuoka.
(※) There are restrictions on private cars. Please note that during the restrictions, you will not be able to go to the 5th station of Mt. Fuji by car (including rental cars). Please see below for details of the restrictions and how to get to the 5th station of Mt. Fuji during the restrictions.

Restrictions on private cars

Of the three Mt. Fuji trailheads in Shizuoka Prefecture (Fujinomiya Exit, Gotemba Exit, and Subashiri Exit), the Fujinomiya Exit(Mt. Fuji Skyline) and Subashiri Exit(Fuji Azami Line) are crowded with climbers and tourists during the summer climbing season, causing traffic congestion near the parking lot at the fifth station. For this reason, restrictions on private cars have been implemented to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors to Mt. Fuji by eliminating traffic congestion, and to preserve the natural environment of Mt. Fuji. *Some vehicles are exempt. Details are as follows.
*Vehicles not subject to the private car restrictions: taxis, bicycles, commercial buses (with green license plates), vehicles displaying a certificate issued by the council, and vehicles that are permitted to pass through. Vehicles carrying physically disabled people (depending on the level of disability)

How to get to the 5th Station Parking Lot during the private car restriction period

The regulations apply not only to private cars and rental cars, but also to electric vehicles (EVs), fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), and electric motorcycles.
Please park your car at the transfer parking lots (Fujinomiya Exit: Mizugazuka Parking Lot, Subashiri Exit: Subashiri Multi-Purpose Square) and then take a shuttle bus or shuttle taxi to the Fifth Station Parking Lot.

The transfer parking lot at Fujinomiya Exit is paid (1000 yen per car), while the transfer parking lot at Subashiri Exit is free. Shuttle buses and shuttle taxis are also charged. Please check here for fares and operating hours. (Reference: Shizuoka Prefecture Mount Fuji Private Car Restrictions )

② Shiraito Falls (The best viewing time is from November 10th to 20th)

Shiraito Falls is known as one of the most famous waterfalls in Japan. This waterfall is formed when the melting snow from Mt. Fuji springs from a cliff at the boundary between the upper, water-permeable New Fuji volcanic layer and the lower, water-impermeable Old Fuji volcanic layer.

Hundreds of waterfalls, large and small, tumble down from a curved cliff 20m high and 150m wide. The waterfall's appearance is worthy of its name, "Shiraito," and looks like countless strands of silk threads. With its gentle, feminine beauty, standing close to the basin of the falls creates a fantastical world with arches of water on three sides. The waterfall has also been designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument.

Access to Shiraito Falls

By car: Approximately 30 minutes by car from the Fuji IC on the Tomei Expressway or the Shin-Fuji IC on the Shin-Tomei Expressway. Approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes from Hotel Associa Shizuoka.

3. Lake Tanuki (The best time to see the flowers is usually from November 10th to 20th)

Lake Tanuki is a beautiful lake located in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is a spot where you can enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji. The lake is located at an altitude of about 650m, and its scenery changes with the seasons. There are campsites and hiking trails in the surrounding area, making it the perfect place to get in touch with nature.
