Spring Festival

Onagawa Spring Festival

The event is very lively, with tents and food trucks offering dishes made with local ingredients from all over the country!

Tsunami legend: Onagawa Fukukoo

This event was born from the desire to continue to convey to future generations in some way the basic principle of tsunami evacuation - that is, "If a tsunami comes, run to higher ground" at all times.

At the signal of "Run!", everyone runs towards higher ground!

The person who finishes first will be recognized as the "First Onagawa Returnee" and will be given a certificate.

Onagawa Port Festival

・Lion Dance on the Sea

The daytime performance will include Onagawa's traditional performing art, the Sea Lion Dance, as well as stage events.

Lion dances can be seen widely in the coastal areas of the Ishinomaki region of Miyagi Prefecture, where during the New Year a lion goes from house to house accompanied by the accompaniment of flutes and drums, praying for exorcism, a good catch of fish, and safety for the household.

・Fireworks at sea

Onagawa Bay, where fireworks such as Underwater Starmine and Jumbo Starmine are launched, is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the impressive fireworks, with their reverberating sounds, light up the night sky of Onagawa.

Onagawa Bon Dance

The first event was held in 2024.

In addition to the Bon Odori festival, there will be karaoke competitions, arm wrestling competitions, bands, etc.

There were a variety of events taking place throughout the day and into the night!

Autumn Festival

Onagawa Autumn Harvest Festival

This is a festival where you can enjoy the flavors of autumn, especially saury.

The highlight is the charcoal grilling that is lined up in a straight line along a 30m long U-shaped ditch!!

There will also be stage events and food trucks, so be sure to stop by!

Winter Festival

Stardust Pageant "Umibotaru"

Approximately 50,000 LED bulbs will be lit up around the symbolic tree in the Onagawa Station Square, delighting the eyes of all visitors!

Early January: Fire department New Year's parade and water spraying

Firefighters from each district of the town will gather and march to Onagawa Bay. They will spray water all at once from the tourist pier in Onagawa Bay!
