What kind of event is it?
"PRINCESS ADACHI FESTIVAL" will be held in Kita-Senju, Tokyo for two days on December 18th (Wed) and 19th (Thu), 2024. This event, which will be held in this historic town close to Asakusa and Ueno, will promote Japanese culture to the world through the story of the princess who is said to bring happiness to visitors in the afterlife, based on the "Legend of Princess Adachi" from over 1,300 years ago. This legend was widely popular during the Edo period and has captured people's hearts. The event is organized by Rojicoya, an alleyway temple school that works to spread traditional Japanese culture.
What kind of experience can you have?
The PRINCESS ADACHI FESTIVAL is a unique event where you can enjoy a variety of experiences, set in a historic temple in Tokyo that has been specially opened to the public. Workshops on lion dancing and shinobue (bamboo flute) by performers in traditional costumes, an outdoor traditional performing arts stage, a samurai experience, and a Kitasenju walking tour that lets you feel the atmosphere of the Edo period are on offer. In addition, visitors can enjoy local gourmet booths, learn up close and try out the craftsmanship of artisans such as Edo embroidery and silver ring making. Also, for the first time, the Adachi Princess Parade will be held around the town! The resurrected princess will bring good fortune to the town. Be sure to catch a glimpse of the beautiful princess in her gorgeous costume.
Prayer Festival
The concept of the festival is "wishes and prayers." Princess Adachi is also known as the "princess of cherry blossoms," and this time she symbolizes the mystical hope that can be said to be the cherry blossoms that bloom in winter. Participants will be able to create works that incorporate their own wishes and hopes for the new year through experiences such as embroidery and silverwork. The festival aims to provide a place where visitors can be inspired to realize their dreams.
Adachihime Opera with English subtitles
In the evening, an opera themed on Princess Adachi will be held. First, a koto performance will be served with dinner, and you can enjoy the elegant sound of the koto while enjoying a sumptuous buffet made with seasonal Japanese ingredients. Afterwards, you will move to the theater at the Tokyo Arts Center to watch an opera depicting the story of Princess Adachi.
