Reason: Wanting to convey the appeal of Kyoto to people who don't know that there is an ocean in Kyoto
When I asked people who came to Kyoto, "Where are you going next?", I heard them answer "Tomorrow, I'm flying from Kansai Airport to Okinawa." When I asked them, "Did you know that there is an ocean in Kyoto, just two hours away by car?", almost everyone answered, "What! I don't know!" As an example, I asked a foreign friend who has lived in Tokyo for over 10 years, and she answered, "There's an ocean in Kyoto?! I didn't know!", which was a shocking answer to me.
So, with the desire to let people know that "Kyoto has the sea!", we started working towards realizing this project with the cooperation of EY as a momentum-building project for the renewal of the Kyoto Prefectural Kyotango Local History Museum.
This experiential cultural event was organized by the Kyoto Prefectural Tango Local History Museum and was designed to allow participants to experience the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Tango region. In collaboration with the Cultural Educational Tourism Council (CEC), participants experienced the charms of Kyoto's "sea" through spectacular views from a hot air balloon, delicious local food, and warm interactions with the people of Tango. More than 150 participants gathered from early in the morning on the day, enjoying a unique and multifaceted experience.
In the summer of 2025, we are also planning programs that will allow you to enjoy the charms of Tango from a new perspective, such as a camping trip using local ingredients.
The Tenpyokan temple and the ruins of Kokubunji Temple spread out before your eyes
1. A scenic flight overlooking the beautiful coastline of Kyoto
The hot air balloon experience took off from the ruins of Tango Kokubunji Temple, a nationally designated historic site, and was an impressive stroll through the air with panoramic views of Amanohashidate and the sea.
Participants were left breathless by the magnificent view of the sky and sea, and while feeling the breeze, they thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of "Sea Kyoto."

2. A time to fill your heart and stomach with local flavors and laughter
At the "Seaside Breakfast Course" on September 28th, rice balls, a symbol of the sea of Tango, were served and participants enjoyed local flavors in the refreshing morning air.
On October 5th, there was a Japanese boat experience and a workshop on the traditional dish "barazushi." On October 5th, the "barazushi course" included an experience of making Tango's traditional barazushi and tasting the rich local ingredients. In addition, a talk event about Japanese boats was held by boat builder Mitsuyoshi Yoshioka, and participants had a valuable opportunity to learn about the technology and history of Japanese boats.
Appearance of special guest Miku, a comedian who lives in the area Miku from the comedian group "Carrot and Cabbage," who lives in the area, appeared on both days and brought laughs to the audience, livening up the venue.
